“Release Youth” from Sasha Smirnova’s record Gone Stray. Built around a simple, repetitive melody, the track combines bass-heavy minimalism, trap-inspired hi-hats, and field recordings. Calm on the surface but unsettling in tone, it lingers in tension and restraint.

Gallery Six - Along The Surface

Michiru Aoyama is a Japanese ambient producer from Kyoto who also enjoys making music in the quiet seaside city of Kamakura, just south of Tokyo. Michiru studied electronic music production in Berlin after his work was hand-chosen by Ryuichi Sakamoto for a radio audition in 2006. Since then, Michiru has released projects on prominent ambient labels such as Organic Industries, taâlem, and Somehow Recordings.

Michiru Aoyama’s Brilliant Days LP comprises two tracks of untitled songs that weave in and out of each other. Michiru’s signature guitar harmonics are treated with serene electronic filters met with youthful under-layers of electronic experimentations and glitchy backdrops.

In Light not Light, as the titles suggest, each track could be, or not be, each draws a scenario where the listener is the subject, and the composer has already completed his task. 
The sound, too, comes from an instrument (classical guitar) that is no longer itself, shaped and transformed by electronics into its future projection. Sometimes you can find traces of natural sounds, as if to preserve a connection with the original idea, sometimes I inserted some field recordings, as little suggestions.
