1. What brought you to start making music?
I always loved music, I always had the “bug” in me for doing music, so I jumped onto Youtube and taught myself how to produce.

2. Who are your 3 biggest influences?
I've always digged the style of Claude Von Stroke, since the beginning.

3. Who are some of your favorite up-and-coming producers?
There is a lot of them, but I’m gonna shout out the Brazilian ones, like Noise Clap, Sterium, MOCHAKK and Confesser

4. If you had to pick one superpower, what would it be and why?
I'd want to be Thor because I'd hit everyone with my hammer!

1. Who/what influenced you to start producing music?

The song that inspired me to pick up my first DAW was "Erick Morillo Ft. Shawnee Taylor - Live Your Life." I absolutely LOVED that track - its simple but the use of soulful vocals, classic house chords, and a high energy drop makes me want to dance every time I hear it. I also have to pay respects to the late Avicii (RIP). His 'In The Studio with Future Music' video of him remixing "Dancing in My Head" taught me the fundamentals of FL Studio, the DAW I still use today. 

2. Why did you choose to remix this song?

Anyone who's heard me DJ knows that I love dropping those throwback heaters in my sets. Nothing brings a dance floor together faster than having everyone singing along to a fire tech house remix of their favorite 1990s hiphop / current Top 40 track. I wanted to pay homage to the progressive house artists that introduced me to EDM back in 2010 so I picked this absolute classic by Adrian Lux and put my own tech house spin on it. 
P.S. Enjoy having those vocals stuck in your head :)

3. Top 3 electronic music producers of all time?

Oh god, this is such a tough one... there's so many factors in play! In order to narrow it down a bit, I'll pick 3 artists that are still putting out new music. Based on consistency, quality, and overall vibe (in no particular order): 

Tom Misch, DJOKO, Walker & Royce 

4. Drop some wisdom, any advice to the up and coming producers?

- Be grateful for the opportunities that come your way. We're honestly so blessed to even have a chance to create and perform music live, not a lot of people are lucky enough to do that!

- Grind more, Instagram less. Marketing is incredibly important but even good marketing can't compete with quality productions.

- Don't let the industry wear you down. You'll get rejected a lot and have to deal with many difficult situations as a DJ and producer. Always remember why you're doing this in the first place and enjoy yourself as much as possible! Having genuine and supportive friends in the industry definitely helps with this. 1. Why did you specifically remix this song?

I grew up with hip hop and RnB and it has been my first and forever musical love. Poison was a song that consistently got great crowd reactions when spinning, so I thought why not give it a new modern spin. I wanted to bring that warm feeling from the original and give it a drop that smacked listeners in the ears. So what you have here is exactly that!

2. What got you into producing?

Music has been a part of my life from the moment I could start remembering things. I played multiple instruments growing up and always played in bands. From the moment I heard electronic music I knew that I wanted to produce it as it was the obvious and most easily approachable musical step.

3. Who are some up and coming producers that you have your eye on?

Arnold and Lane, Adrian Hex, Westend, Aylen, Ocean Roulette, Morelia, Roy Havens, Clem Lee, Sammy Legs, TCHilT, Das Kapital and Niqw. All these guys have come out of the woodwork in the past year or two and are pushing the boundaries of house music. MUST WATCH.

4. Drop some wisdom, any advice to the up and coming producers?

The biggest thing I can recommend is to not worry about staying in a genre lane. Make what sounds good to you and it will fall into place. While I have been in the booty and tech house genre spaces, I continually make things that don’t fit in those genres and it makes me think of things differently than I normally would.

Also, be respectful. This industry is just as much about personality as it is about the music. I hope that helps.

1. What made you decide that you want to start producing?

Music has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. My mom signed my up for Bollywood dance classes when I was little, so the love of dance has always been a part of me. I really began my journey with electronic music while I was a sophomore at UC Berkeley I was a wall flower business major and music was one of my only real outlets to show I could “fit in”. I was the guy on the aux cord every weekend until I taught myself how to Dj and ultimately began making music. It’s been such an incredible journey of self discovery so far.


2. Why did you pick this song of all songs to remix? Any special place in your heart for the Gorillaz? (I mean who doesn't love the Gorillaz?)

This has always been one of my favorite songs. When I was in music school at Icon in LA the Gorillaz headlined Outsidelands Fest (2017) a San Francisco based music festival. I ended up sneaking onto stage just in time to watch the Gorillaz perform this song live to a crowd of 100,000+ people. The song has never sounded the same and as a result was stuck in my head for weeks, months, years even. Fast forward to a few months ago when this bootleg was written I was at the peak of a new relationship that was healing so many old wounds. On Melancholy Hill was my top played song of 2019 shout out Spotify algorithmic playlists.  It all made sense it was the fastest I’d ever written a song.

4. Drop some wisdom, any advice to the producers just breaking out into the scene?

I was never a musician in the classical sense music theory is something I still battle with on a regular basis. What I will say is that somewhere along the way I’ve learned to trust my ear more than anything and it’s gotten me some really interesting results (not all of them have worked). So I suppose trust your ear, and make music every day. The results won’t always be a number a song or even an idea that you like. Trust the process and laugh at yourself ALL THE TIME. 


5. Tell us more about Boiz House and what you got going on!

I get giddy even as I write this but Boiz House is literally my everything. I’ve been lucky enough to form a live music dj boy band with my best friends from college and there truly is no other feeling in the world like it. We’ve traveled across most of the west coast and played on some of the biggest stages at the biggest festivals out here together playing music that we’ve been working on in our living room. It’s been a truly joyful and testing experience as an Artist to be thrown into the pits (or backyard pool) of producing for weeks on end with some of your harshest critics but at the end of the day having the time of our life has always been essential to our journey.  If you haven’t heard of Boiz House you definitely will be soon! We start our West Coast Party Tour in Seattle this February so you might catch us in your neighborhood! Stay tuned because we boiz love house, bass, funk, jazz, disco, breaks, hip-hop & everything in between. You’re in for a boogie like no other. 


6. Whats one of your favorite production tips that when you learned it, totally changed the game for you?

OKNF: Who/what inspired you into wanting to learn how to produce?
Galo: I started producing about 2 years ago but I’ve been in music for most of my life. I started playing saxophone in the 4th grade, picked up the guitar in 8th, and then slowly taught myself piano, drums and bass. I’m inspired by a lot of different genres and people. It ranges from bands like Peach Pit and Her’s to artist like Noizu, Sonny Fodera, and Lee Foss

OKNF: We have to acknowledge the affect that COVID had on the dance music industry, what do you think our future is going to look like?
Galo: COVID has definitely flipped everything upside down. Its obviously been a huge hindrance to the entertainment industry in so many aspects, but it’s also shown how adaptable and innovative people are. So while it sucks now, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel and I know the industry will come out on top.

OKNF: What's the best production tip you've heard recently?
Galo: Keep. Writing. No but seriously, spend your time wisely. If you feel like you’re having an off day and can’t write anything, go look for new samples, pick up an instrument, read up on music theory, or watch tutorials. Also dude, people gotta stop sleeping on stock ableton plug-ins. Slap that saturator on soft sine errrwhere

OKNF: Who’s on your radar in terms of upcoming artists?
Galo: There are tons of artists you need to be watching right now. John Summit, Morelia, Westend, The Sponges, No Pants Party, Black V Neck, Freak On, Cloverdale, Nostalgix, Nutty, Curtiba, Bingewatch, House Divided, Bush league. God I’m forgetting a bunch.

OKNF: Any advice to newcomers to the scene?
Galo: As a newcomer myself, I try to remember while you’re sleeping, someone else is grinding. Also, I’d say there aren’t any shortcuts, stop making excuses and get in the studio, and stop bothering the promoter for a better time slot.
