For the third edition of Hjem podcast we welcome techno enigma SME. Hailing from Buenos Aires, Argentina, local Montreal artist SME is complex and uncompromising in his sound, offering his audience a non-romanticized nostalgia of techno history in every track selection. Motivated by polished rave giants such as Héctor Oaks and Ellen Allien, and vinyl authorities such as Sunil Sharpe, SME provides a visceral interpretation of transformative and textured rhythm and structure, allowing the natural components of vinyl and digital character to speak for themselves. In this set, SME indulges in his experimental expertise, exploiting commercialized 90’s and early 2000’s tracks with raw interruptions of their original forms, challenging his audience with variations of 4/4 timing, liquifying pitch changes, and erotically hypnotic progressions. But don’t be fooled by the tongue-in-cheek probes in SME’s delivery. This semi-vinyl set is a critical surveillance of current and matured techno tour-de-force, and will keep even the most impenetrable techno elitists moving tenaciously.
