How many hours sleep do you get a night? I probably get about 3 hours and then the rest is made up of YouTube rabbit holes! Sicknote has been busy over the last couple of years after setting up Disc World with none60 affiliate Dexta but thankfully he found some time to make "No Sleep" and "Self Destruct" for none60!

"No Sleep" is one of the most industrial pieces of music on our label so far, the eerie atmospherics and overdriven bass notes twist throughout the track and combine with the sparse drums, watch out for those stabs on the breakdown! Definitely one for the small hours!

"Self Destruct" takes a more relaxed approach but is just as impactful! Hypnotic pads, intricate breaks and an incredible rolling bassline all blend together perfectly to act as the perfect foil to "No Sleep"

Do try and get a good 8 hours sleep if you can...

Originally released as a 4 track 2x12" vinyl on Subtle Audio in 2009, a very limited 10 track Subtle Audio CD version followed in 2010 before a licensing deal with Rephlex Records saw the CD widely distributed along with 3 (digital only) bonus tracks. Now that the licensing term with Rephlex has come to an end, we're releasing all 15 tracks from the 3 different formats in one digital download. Seems fitting to do it now, seeing as we are celebrating Subtle Audio's 10th Birthday this year and it's 5 years since the original release of this album.

"Time to enter the insane, weird, drum-centric world of Macc & dgoHn as the Subtle Audio camp proudly delivers its first album long player by this pair of not altogether insane East Londoners.

Subtle Audio has been pushing Drum & Bass with a slighly different slant since 2005 and this album could well be presented as their mission statement, it sums up the distinctive sound of the label perfectly.

Macc & dgoHn favour a breakbeat driven style and they incorporate their beats into ever shifting cinematic arrangements brim full of attitude and experimentation. Individually, their sounds have travelled far beyond the Drum & Bass microcosm and their work has been aired by the likes of Zane Lowe and Mary Anne Hobbs on BBC Radio 1. Aphex Twin is also an admirer and his festival playlists have contained Macc or dgoHn on more than one occasion. Now they unleash a volley of material from their collaborative archive which is set to disarm critics who thought Drum & Bass had run out of rhythms, arrangements and silly album titles. Selecting tunes for releases on Samurai Music is difficult as there is so many great tunes on offer. The absolute cream of what we get sent makes it to releases on vinyl, so resisting the temptation of digital only releases creates a backlog of high quality tunes. Outliers is a collection of music from the Samurai family of artists that were all in contention for vinyl release, but for one reason or another slipped through the cracks. Most of these are still in heavy rotation in many of our DJ sets, so rather than hogging them, we put together a collection for a Bandcamp only release. Most of these have never been played by more than a few select Samurai DJ’s and the producer themselves. Outliers shows the depth of talent these producers have with these sitting on their HD’s without a home. We don’t plan on moving into the digital only release field any time soon so maybe we can have this series as a semi regular substitute.
