I was thinking about what that expression means, or what I think it means, in hard times one must go hungry, go lean, make do and carry on into better days. There, there is something to write about, that’s a universal theme if ever. So it became a sort of hard luck song, a frank song, a song aware that wishing on a star aint gonna get you out of your fix, but it’s playful and painless to dream, and if it helps you sleep why not sing a song of hope to yourself?
