Henry – Stand Up For Love (Hi-Lux Remix) Ore Records/XL 1995

This was the first track that Hi-Lux had been asked to remix by another label (Ore Records), the club reaction to previous remixes for Hi-Lux’s home label Cheeky/Champion Records had put Hi-Lux on the map, ‘Stand Up For Love’ was another of the many Piano House tracks that needed freshening up with a Hi-Energy sound. Ore records was a ‘House’ offshoot label of XL records

This remix was more of a dub than a vocal track, the original version full song didn’t really lend itself to the Hi-Lux full vocal treatment so the majority of vocals were stripped out to make it a full on club banger. 

Interesting fact…. This is the only track or remix that Hi-Lux did that had a piano part …. The arrangement of this remix could have been tighter looking back, I don’t think it really needed to be 7mins 12secs long !! 

Although the song/vocal was stripped out, the hook line was really strong and carried a dub mix well.

Not many DJ’s or producers have classic club anthems or top ten hits on their CVs, James has both. Even fewer have been the inspiration that has influenced other acts for over three decades. James has enjoyed a successful career as Pianoman and is recognised of one of the pioneers of dance music in the UK who has had major releases with Ministry of Sound, FFRR/London Records, AATW records, Polydor Records and Sony Music.
He started out as a popular pirate radio Dj in the late 80s who then moved into music production with classics “Blurred”, “Cast A Spell”, “Whitney Tune” and “Revelation” to name but a few. It was Blurred that catapulted his career in 1994 when it entered the UK charts at number 6 and stayed in the charts for 4 weeks. On its 30th anniversary year Blurred has just been resigned to the Xploded label 
James also has new projects with Armada Music and Trick Records for 2024.  
Very few artists are synonymous with the term “Old Skool” and even fewer with its conception making the name Pianoman one of the founding members of the British dance music scene
