After the stoppage we have suffered due to the current problem in the supply of physical discs, we have decided to release this compilation in digital format to overcome the material obstacles that hinder the release of music.
After three years of starting our journey as a label, we take stock of what we have learned and where we want to be. Under The Stone is the result of a conscious awareness of the spectacularized and speculative electronic music that prevails today.A conscious and proud stance regarding the consumerist concepts of macro festivals and selfies that distort the idea of collective culture. The title refers to the double movement involved in lifting a stone. On the one hand, discovering the extraordinary ecosystem that is hidden underneath, and on the other, the act of throwing away the stone that was keeping it crushed.
This album brings together a few artists, some to be discovered and others more established, but who share a common denominator, powerful sound and a challenge to established consumption clichés. We want to thank all the artists who are part of the compilation for giving shape and meaning to the idea that orbits this release.

01. Autumns - Why Work?

The covid pandemic had a great impact on humanity, on the way we relate to each other and on many other sociological aspects that conditioned our daily lives for a time. It also limited the economic stability of artists, programmers and club owners, however, and in reference to the artists who were unable to work in front of their audiences, some were able to delve into other artistic subjects derived entirely from creation. Rhys Fulber took advantage of this period of reflection to integrate himself into a different creative medium, influenced especially by the effect of human beings on nature. Brutal Nature was born as a consequence of the confinement, released in November 2021, and among its qualities we must highlight the introspective character of the Canadian producer, as he manages to adapt his hard and forceful style within a sensitive harmonic atmosphere.

Brutal Nature continues two years later with six versions by different authors. Brutal Nature Redux features the participation of artists and projects from the contemporary electronic music scene such as Years of Denial, Sarin, Evitceles, Qual and Vanity Productions, and another legend of the Canadian industrial scene, Orphx.

Years of Denial’s take on “Rogue Minority” injects some emotion and humanity into the stark and aggressive original while preserving the driving bass riff and lifting it into the sound of a futuristic tribal gathering. Berlin’s Sarin is up next, leaning into the future EBM style he also shares with Fulber but amping up the intensity and apocalyptic dance floor elements of Central State Institute. Night Render is given a darker and more sinister sheen by up-and-coming Bulgarian producer, Evitceles. The nature elements of the original are replaced by a cinematic dystopia, akin to salvaging lost technology in a ruined city. 

Orphx add their rhythmic sophistication to “Stare at the Sun, tripping and refining the original down to its base elements while tuning Sara Taylor’s (Youth Code) screams across what appears to be several channels of short wave radio. Qual’s radical re-interpretation of “Pyrrhic Act” brings elements of Fulber’s past history in EBM right to the fore, creating a groove that’s both retro and very modern, slowing it down so the tension hangs heavier in the air. Lastly but certainly not least, Vanity Productions highlights the “nature” of “Fragility”, accentuating it with delicate clouds hanging in an air of contemplation; darkness and light coexisting in thick emotional textures.

Ballad Of A Lost Soul

Three years after his contribution to Banshees Records, Madrid-based producer Silicodisco returns to the Toledo-based label with a new release and a different ally. If in the first release he teamed up with Cantabrian producer Parissior, on this occasion he teams up with Luis Bonías, a veteran DJ and producer from the Valencian scene. Bonías, now under his alias Bias, has been involved in most of the mythical Valencian venues and has participated in and released a significant number of releases. However, although his records have diversified a lot during his career, this collaboration with Silicodisco confirms the potential of both of them to work with contemporary EBM or with the sonic qualities of industrial and techno.

With three original tracks and a couple of covers by two Spanish projects, Alen Skanner and SM Forma, this five-track collection explores very different perspectives and influences, although the result shows a great affinity between the tracks.

Industrial Walls Of Jericho, the opening track, exhibits a sound and style that fits perfectly with dark wave and industrial electro, however, Alen Skanner's version confirms that there is a context, which is further enhanced with this remix, more akin to goa or psychedelic trance, and indeed, Alen Skanner moves his version completely into this realm.

Primal Tension, the only track without a replica, is nourished by a forceful punch, the strength of the sub-bass and the bass line, although its development involves very disparate locutions, arpeggiated structures or evasive textures. As for Looking For The Residents Motion, the original cut is cerebral and architecturally twisted and complex. SM Forma also adds to the chaos with its remix, although structurally it is a much more ordered and dancefloor-friendly version.

@voxsinistra explore la musique électronique sombre et underground avec des inspirations rétro et modernes. Dans son travail en tant que DJ, elle a cultivé une communauté autour des genres EBM, Techno Body Music, Industriel, New Beat, Minimal, Cold Wave, Électro et Techno avant-gardistes. Elle a également exploré la musique synthétique des années 80, comme l'Italo disco, l'acid house, le synth-pop, la new wave et bien d'autres. Avec un passé dans le post-punk, la no wave et les mouvements alternatifs et DIY punk, elle combine des sons avec un esprit rebelle, des mélodies nostalgiques et des mélanges de genres qui stimulent les corps en mouvement pour une expérience cathartique de musique de danse intense.

Elle est actuellement animatrice de la soirée club et du label @strict_tempo ou elle programme une sélection internationale d'artistes électroniques. Vox est également connue pour son émission de radio post-punk/'80s wave Secret Meaning of Things sur KHUH 104.9 FM depuis 2011, nominée pour le prix de la meilleure émission musicale alternative aux Mixcloud Radio Awards en 2018. Elle a été mise en avant dans la série "One to Watch" de Mixcloud et ses mixes ont atteint la première place des classements de Mixcloud dans plus de 20 genres différents. 

Elle a aussi été chroniqueuse musicale pour The Stranger, le journal alternatif primé du Pulitzer de Seattle, de 2011 à 2019, et est actuellement contributrice pour Post-Punk.com. Vers 2017, elle a été inspirée à mélanger ses sons underground des années 80 avec de la techno et de l'électro et se concentre désormais sur la création de sets pour des pistes de danse sombres et labyrinthiques.

We are very pleased to welcome Second Tension as our 36th guest on the Kaos London podcast series with a live mix of new music created for the Kaos London showcase at Astron Club, Athens in July 2024.

Second Tension is a project by Stavros Tilkeridis, a Greek artist and DJ. Stavros started creating music back in the early nineties, with next to no access to the outside world. He started with tape loops, not too dissimilar to those by Pierre Schaffer, and got his hands on his first sampler, Mpc 2000xl, by the late nineties. Stavros was introduced to rave culture in the early two-thousands and experimented his way through them, using his music to search for a deeper, hidden meaning. He started Second Tension in 2016 as an attempt to capture a progressive spirit in electronic music, combining primitive and industrial aesthetics. With 3 EPs and an LP  on Persephonic Sirens, and several  released on OSM Tapes, and Monolith.

BLACKMOON1348 WITH THE TIBETAN MONKS OF THE TASHI LHUNPO MONASTERY 12”
DEATH & LEISURE

Here at Death & Leisure we are on a continuing mission to surprise and experiment, and so with our new release we present something very special, Blackmoon1348 and The Tibetan Monks of The Tashi Lhunpo Monastary. This project sounds like nothing else, it fuses heavy drone guitar sounds with traditional tibetan throat singing and live instrumentation. 

BlackMoon1348 in collaboration with the Tibetan Monks of the Tashi Lhunpo Monastery (Tibet/ India). 2017 BlackMoon1348 embarked on a cultural experimentation of cultural diversity in the arts, forming a collaboration of ancient Tibetan ceremonial practises and instrumentation with sub-harmonic drones and industrial soundscapes. The music amalgamates sacred mantras that date back to the early teachings of Tibetan Buddhism practised in the Tashi Lhunpo Monastery, with heavy detuned western instruments, synths, and electronic music for the first time in recorded history. The Tashi Lhunpo monastery was once home to the Panchen Lama who subsequently “disappeared” under the oppressive Chinese rule of Tibet. A handful of the Tashi Lhunpo monks were fortunate to escape into exile and have since re-built the monastery in Mysore, South India - now flourishing with over 400 monks practising within the monastery. Tibetan Buddhism is an outlawed ancient tradition within Tibet - monks, nuns, and Tibetans cannot openly practise their heritage and traditions, forcing Tibetans to inhabitable plateaus, with such areas are now under “Chinese Re-development”, the land being stripped of natural resources for China’s ever growing economy and totalitarian rule. Tibetans face persecution for as little as owning a Tibetan flag, or picture of the Dali Lama, with such actions landing you in jail, tortured, poised, and/or being released just before the point of death. It is important for us to remember and celebrate the traditions of the Himalayas and its sacred, peaceful practises.       
The music was recorded live in one take at Flesh and Bone studio in Hackney for NTS Radio’s Black Impulse show. Engineered, mixed, and mastered by Oliver and Owen at Flesh and Bone, capturing the raw, ethereal essence of the collaboration and ceremonial sounds buried deep within the Himalayas. This was the first time in history for such collaboration of tradition, ideology from Adeline Rozario and orchestrated by David Kerry of BlackMoon1348 who created this music to diversify and bring together ceremonial instruments, diversifying the metaphysics of transcendence through ceremonial Tibetan practises. 
It is important to understand that BlackMoon1348 are not attempting to change the fundamental meaning or belief of the Tashi Lhunpo Monks, or assume to have a deep-rooted understanding of the ancient traditions of Tibetan Buddhism, This is our understanding of Tibetan culture and practices as truly and honestly as we see and feel it, and our attempt to spread this beautiful, sacred, culture, and keep it alive within today’s society.
