'Iyewaye', Oliver Koletzki’s first release after the autobiographical I AM OK album, introduced a new facet of the artist’s sound. The EP catered to a darker and more raw aesthetic, a direction followed and deepened by the four remixes. First up is the title track 'Iyewaye', turned into a lengthy tech infused introspection by Hatzler. Loosely centered around the initial vocals, Loco & Jam’s makeover explores the track’s captivating snappy narrative. The more rhythm focused 'Ipuza' gets a special treatment from Hidden Empire who dial up the aggression of the percussion. Zakari & Blange downplay the track’s initial exotic elements, focusing on the rattling synths and giving it a late-night dancefloor rework.

It was in 2014 when a mutual friend introduced me to Victor Ruiz while he was staying here in Berlin. I invited Victor to my studio where we had a fantastic session, playing our music to each other, listening to stuff we like and simply talkin and connecting. Since then, we became close friends as well as starting to work together. Victor has released two outstanding EPs on Electric Ballroom by now. This summer we met again and recorded three tracks. The result is our first joint EP, of which I am very proud. (Thomas Schumacher, November 2015)

Do you believe in conincidences?

I don’t - anymore. I used to believe in conincidences but I’ve learned that everything happens for a reason. And that everything in life happens for you, not to you.

So, I have been busying myself with the idea of an remix album of classic tracks of mine for quite some time. But I struggled with the selection of tracks and which remix artist to pair with which track.  Until certain people entered my life. Some of them I only „met“ through their music on social media and never in person, others I met briefly, like in a car to a festival and some I started to hang out with and they became real life friends. All of these people connect with my music and I feel drawn to their music and in many ways we insprire each other.  As a natural result this remix EP took shape and I am excited to present it to you. The record contains four remixes of tracks from my back catalogue that cover a period of 20 (!) years, from my early days on Bush in the mid 90s to my first label Spiel-Zeug Schallplatten in the 00`s up until now, where I run Electric Ballroom from Berlin. Returning to Juicebox Music is Delhi-based DJ/Producer extraordinaire, Vipul Angirish, under his new alias - SHFT, leaving his past sound to focus on a new approach - aimed towards the bold, clean and sonically creative aspects of underground house and techno. His collaborations with fellow Indian artist Kohra, as well as his own endeavours, have been released on Riley Reinhold's "Traum Schallplatten", Darin Epsilon's "Perspectives Digital", Dave Davis' "Laark Records", TrockenSaft's "KDB Records", Pete Oak's "Blindfold Recordings" and their very own "Qilla Records" to name a few. For Juicebox Music, he presents a stunning 2-track EP showcasing his subconscious influences as well as his finesse as a producer. 

'Memoir' starts with melancholic piano parts, provided by SHFT's musical mentor - Prabir, smoothly drifting into and out of jovial sections that inevitably create a dramatic soundscape. SHFT's signature modern and minimal approach to the groove, pulsated by sharp chord stabs, panned hats and sparsely thrown percussive bits, drives Prabir's story into the epic breakdown, featuring a gorgeous guitar riff courtesy of SHFT's colleague - Rushil, finally culminating in a monstrous moment that's simply irresistible.

Inspired by the intense and ominous cinematic soundtracks, SHFT takes those elements to the floor with 'Second Sight'. Thunderous and crisp drums along with a simple bass groove, that cleverly mimics a clock ticking away, supply the bed for horn-based drone blasts, arpeggiated string sections, soaring leads and carefully placed piano parts. The devil is in the details and simplicity and that's where the beauty hides.
