We’ve got another funk soaked techno groove to round off a solid week of new music on Four Four. Chlär steps up to remix Alec Dienaar on Deadline Records, and the Swiss groove maestro is once again proving that he is one of the most clinical and prolific techno producers on the planet right now.

Deadline Records present their first EP as a label following, a strong debut VA with tracks from The Chronics, Nicolas Volger, Specific Objects and more. The first EP ‘Perpetual Groove’ comes from Alec Dienaar, a fresh new name in the techno scene.

Alec is a young talented producer and DJ based in Utrecht, the Netherlands. His unique style can be described as groovy, funky with an old school touch. You can hear his passion through out his sound as he likes to sample old tracks turning it into a new track. His inspiration comes a lot from the late 90s and early 2000s.

With his groovy percussions, dirty basslines and unique chords, you will he is most definitely setting himself apart from the crowd. Also included are Remixes from Chlär, Hyden, Maxx Rossi and Versus.

Chlär‘s remix is just what you can expect from the Berlin based techno wizz kid. Chlär calls on thriving bass grooves, prickly chord stabs and rolling percussive rhythms. This is proper techno.

We start the week off with a premiere from one of Ireland’s most exciting new prospects in the world of funk driven techno, as Dylan Fogarty steps up to Twice Infinity’s sub-label ‘Groovecore United’. Dylan’s offering to the Berlin based label see’s the youngster lean on lush pads and nostalgic chord stabs for an infectious deep roller.

Dylan Fogarty features on Specific Objects ‘Groovecore United‘ imprint, the sub-label of the Berlin based Twice Infinity. The release calls on producers from around the globe, complete with seven artists providing an array of 90’s influenced techno from smooth and mellow to hard and direct dancefloor focussed cuts.

Hailing from Skerries Dylan Fogarty emerged at the tail end of 2022 with a deep and lengthy amount of unreleased techno funk. The newcomer quickly impressed with a flurry of self releases as well as featuring on ASW, Rave Your Soul, Concrete Berlin & more. Ireland’s newest arrival of loop driven techno obsession has been gaining support from some of Europes most in demand selectors including DJ Heartstring, Tommy Holohan, Kettama and more.

Fogarty’s contribution to ‘Groovecore United’ is a slick slice of Detroit influenced techno. Warm and fluffy pads wrap around the groove whilst shimmering chord stabs take centre stage, giving a heavenly feeling of ethereal techno, but not deviating too far from the motor city. This is classy dancefloor driven techno.

Lars Huismann is back on Mutual Rytm with the much-anticipated third volume of his ‘Sounds From The Past’ trilogy. 

A core part of SHDW & Obscure Shape’s ever more crucial Mutual Rytm imprint thanks to his timeless techno offerings as part of his ongoing ‘Sounds From The Past’ series, Berlin-based DJ/producer Lars Huismann’s stock continues to rise release by release as a talent merging influences from the past with forward-thinking nuances of the future. Drawing on the early 2000 techno sound, he embellishes it with his own perspective, as evidenced by his earlier releases on the label. This latest six-track offering is another accomplished outing from this unique talent as he concludes the three-part series on the label in style. 

The title track ‘Sound From The Past III’ opens up with a finely filtered chord groove that provides a smooth and hypnotising foundation. A subtle bassline, buoyant kick drums, and embedded vocal patterns harmonise with the synths, unveiling a smooth linear groove that soon sweeps you up. 

‘Fusion’ brings more intensity with its barreling drum kicks, a dirty driving bassline, and melodies flashing by like headlights on an intergalactic motorway, with the overhanging pent-up energy inescapable. Next, ‘Shimmer’ rides on vast, heavy layered drums that are warm, and comforting as the track travels through a journey of diverse dub techno elements. 

Like in ‘Loucura’, taken from ‘Sounds From The Past II’, Lars again showcases his strong influences from Brazilian and Latin music. On ‘Estar Farto’, the drums and bass are tightly interwoven, racing beneath bright and funky synth lines that bring ever-evolving shades of colour. A jazz drummer himself, the music transports into the groove via intelligent brass chord progressions and fine-tuned vocal and percussion elements. 

It’s straight dance floor business on the closing vinyl production ‘Bittersweet’, with its muted synth smears darting over more macho drum programming, while digital bonus ‘Dusty Lick’ is an unrelenting, jazzy, percussion-driven banger that hits hard and heavy in all the right places.
