After releasing Bad which became the second most successful album in history Michael Jackson embarked on his first solo concert world tour spanning 1987 and 1988 it would become the most successful solo tour of the 80s. Michael Jackson became the only artist in history to sell out the legendary Wembley Stadium 7 nights on the tour breaking the record of 3 nights held by Madonna. The third of the 7 night stand was attended by The Prince and Princess of Wales and the proceeds of the Wembley shows went to the Prince's Trust. He originally planned to cut Dirty Diana that night because Lady Diana was there but before the show she let him know it was her favorite song and the song was included after all.

In 1996, Jackson performed a free concert at the Jerudong Park Amphitheatre in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei on 16 July 1996. The concert was in celebration of the fiftieth birthday of Hassanal Bolkiah, the Sultan of Brunei and was attended by the Brunei royal family.
