A three-movement work for clarinet and cello celebrating the elements required to function as a divine creator, and glorifying women/people with uteruses as the ones who make us.

The three movements are:

Near an Open Window

During the 10-day SoundSCAPE Festival 2022 I noticed two daily constants in the idyllic Bobbio setting. The pleasant chatting of many different bird species echoing constantly from the ancient walls of the various medieval abbey courtyards and piazza's, and the consistent hourly call of the town church bells reverberating across the streets towards the valley's green hills. 

In Birds & Bells the player may choose from a variety of short multi-measure transcriptions of both the bird and the bell calls to generate a simple sound scape of an idyllic Italian country town.

The second part of a live improv set using one of my circuit instruments, which interprets a signal from my Arduino IDE code via a chip triggered using a light sensitive photo resistor. The signal is then sent back through my laptop and processed in Ableton using my MIDI controller. One aspect of this set is that I write some of the code in real time, causing the signal to change. The video, showing some of the Ableton processing, can be found on my YouTube channel.

Live computer electronics using improvisation and interactive composition on my bespoke instrument is the primary topic of my PhD research.

Olivia holds a Master of Music from The New School’s College of Performing Arts, New York. They are currently a PhD candidate in Fine Arts and Music at the School of Jazz and Improvisation, Melbourne University.
