She Inspired Me From the Clouds

This is an experimental track I made using mostly the Aperture library from Spitfire Audio. Piano sound is from the free LABS series by Spitfire Audio as well. 

I'm currently on scholarship studying Mandarin Chinese in Taiwan - I'm writing this on a cheap Chromebook - and I don't have access to my home computer or FL Studio. So, thus I will be not publishing any music for at least half a year.

This track could be still polished more, but hopefully it even now catches some emotions and the sense of danger and cat mouse -play of two old frenemies encountering each other.

This track is made using mostly the free BBC Symphony Orchestra by Spitfire Audio. Orchestral and electronic elements are combined and I tried to give a track a feeling of being at the same time longing/melancholic and courageous/majestic.

Your Tears Tattooed In My Skin

This is a song that I would see fitting in the background of a video game. Somehow, the images of caves to explore in freezing tundras comes to mind, an exploration/adventure game like Tomb Raider.

A piece of music that could serve as exploration music in a video game (think of Gris, whose soundtrack by Berlinist is a musical masterpiece) or as a lofi-type-of-beat in itself.

A beat with some vinyl scratches, piano keys, vocal sounds and occasional touch of strings to evoke feelings of nostalgia, longing and melancholy - the beautiful type of sadness.

This is a beat where I've mixed orchestral instruments with background vocals and piano sounds. Listen how it progresses from start to finish. My personal favorite part start around 4:16.

The Nights of Hope and Longing

This is a soundtrack-type-of-song mixing plucked instrument sounds with a beat, atmospheric vocals and choir. I think the song would fit a movie scene in a movie like the absolutely gorgeous and philosophical "Big Fish & Begonia" (one of my favorites, see the trailer here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ErQLQMpRPXk). This song puts me in a dream-like kind of state. It captures something deep and profound, kind of electric feeling of those emotions the poetic name of the Finnish band Nightwish. I was thinking about doing this song with female vocals but in the end decided to go with an electronic lead, because it was easier. 

For the electric lead, I got inspiration from the soundscapes of the movie composer Vangelis. I also put some wind and ocean wave samples to this song, because I just love the way they sound and the magical imaginary they bring to my mind when listening to this song.

The beginning of this song was completely made out of different voice samples. I have quite a collection of different(free)sound samples I've gathered around the internet. 

With this song, I decided to challenge myself to see if I could do a song mostly out of these samples. In the end, I also used many instruments and vst:s to make the song sound better, but I'm still proud that this sample-based approach to composing a song worked out nicely. And hey, at least I got to produce something a little bit different than what I usually do!

I think the song has kind of nice feeling and groove in it and that it still conveys an encouraging and refreshing message to the listener: "The future is your time", as the song quite powerfully says. I had a fun time mixing the vocal samples to the track: I made different three copies of many of the voice samples and played them at the same time in the song. For each of the three originally identical samples, I changed the pitch and panning settings. Together all these adjustments make the voices sound quite strong. I also like the bit of the robotic sound the voice samples have in them.

This track was made when I had a few setbacks in life and I went through the process of almost burying my dreams alive. I thought that I don't have what it takes to live an exceptional life out of caring and abundance and I tried to convince myself to settle down and take it the easy way. But some powerful voice inside my wouldn't let me settle for mediocrity and now I'm recovering and bringing myself to my feet again...

My first take with space ambient. Imagine an astronaut looking at Earth from space for the first time and feeling a mixture of emotions from beauty and peace to terror and loneliness and finally acceptance... This is an old song from a year back, I remastered it and put it here. It's a short track (1:24), but I thought it was too  fun a track to be left to waste. So enjoy!

The picture of this song is an oil painting by the Polish photographer, sculptor and painter Zdzisław Beksiński. The artwork does not have a name. It was painted in 1984. 

Beksiński was known for painting striking and disturbing images with high-level detail and precision and for his expressionist use of colours. Beksiński was one of the leading figures of contemporary art of his time.

For me, the making of this song was a fascinating journey.  The song starts with an epic piano intro which was originally meant for another song. "War and Peace" is a combination of two different piano melodies meant originally for two different song. 

The shocking turn in the song comes when the explosions, screaming and gunfire come into play. I wanted this song to convey the sudden tragedy when an idyllic phase in life comes to a sudden end: unexpected death of a child of a family member, the start of a war, the moment when one loses a bit of innocence. 

The contrast between a baby laughing and a brutal war starting is meant to be a strong one.

I looked for songs like this over the internet and couldn't quite find anything close to this. Then I decided to make this song of my own. 

May this song be one to shock and provoke you; may it be a song to heal and guide you;  a song to give you hope for the future; a song to provoke you into action; a song to make you contribute something to the lives of others.

For me, the tragedies of the world and death are not subjects I want 
to escape and not think about. I want to think them just the right amount: not too much or I would perish and lose all hope, but just enough, so that I can be grateful for what I have and that I can carry and show the light for others. 

I do much volunteering work and support organizations like Amnesty International - all this brings  meaning to my life. As someone who has met and talked with people who have gone through torture,  read biographies of people with harsh experiences, as someone who have been with people during their deep crises, making music like this is way of contemplating everything I have gone through.

I made this track around the legendary speech given by Al Pacino in the classic movie Scent of a Woman. I made this track the same time I made the track "Nobody Is Gonna Hit as Hard as Life", which features Sylvester Stallone's inspiring speech from the movie Rocky Balboa. It is only now that I publish this track.

For anyone who have not seen the movie Scent of a Woman, I strongly recommend to take a look. It's a striking movie with lots of memorable scenes.

This is the first track I've posted on Soundcloud that I've made together with someone else. The artist behind the alias Odjom used to be a roommate with my for a while, we lived in a commune house together with a few more people for a few months. 

Just a two days before Odjom moved away from the house we realized we hadn't yet made any music together despite both of us being eager music producers. So we came up with this song in one day and had fun making it.

The melodies of Bach's Toccata & Fugue were added to the song by importing the notes through a midi file and the Clockwork Orange theme was done by looking after the chords of the song through internet.

After falling in love with the music genre 'future garage' I decided to have my take on the genre. This is what I ended up with. 

The way I feel, future garage music has a feeling of certain magic in it. The music comes with a certain feeling of eternity, like it's been played from another timeless reality/dimension. For me, future garage music carries with it a sense of beauty and hope. It also has a strong sense of some kind of longing, maybe even sadness, in it. 

Future garage is music for accepting the now, the moment that is: everything isn't nice in life, there is sorrow, sadness and cruelty, and yet, we always have beauty and hope we carry within us and within this world. Things are changing all the time - and yet same kind of pattern of dramas and change are being played again and again throughout human history.

That is what the genre 'future garage' means for me. I hope you like my song and the way it mixes both classical and electric sound and instruments.

A Delicate Journey to the Underworld of The Heart

This song was sitting unused and unpublished on my hard drive for months until I finally picked it up, tweaked it and went to publish it here. For me, this cinematic piece somehow brings to my mind pictures of sunset and armadas crossing the sea - hence the picture in the song. Hope you find this song inspiring!

This song was inspired by the profound track 'Time' composed by the legendary film composer Hans Zimmer. 'Time' is a song composed for the movie Inception, a thought-provoking film from the director Cristopher Nolan.

Like 'Time', 'A Leader Is a Dealer in Hope' has a strong string section throughout the song and like Time, Dealer in Hope also mixes electric music with classical orchestral music. In Time, there was electric guitar in the orchestra, in Dealer in Hope you have electric synthetisators and digital sounds.

After a friend's suggestion - always looking for ways to play around music - I've tried composing with a little more down-tempo and little less hectic -style than before. This is my first published song with that new approach and also my take in ambient electronic music genre. The song is  in its own way a tribute to the legendary Blade Runner film and its soundtrack.

The title suggests the inevitable coming of the new age of transhumanism. Whatever your feelings and opinions are about this subject, it surely is worth knowing and pondering about as to what the future of the human race might be. I combine elements from electric and classical music in a cinematic way. One of my dreams is to have my music in a movie/video game!

What music means to me?

Besides being a source of joy (and a source of many other feelings), music for me is also a form a meditation and a tool for exploring myself and my own psyche. 

Sometimes I imagine myself as an explorer like  Magalhães, Marco Polo or Ibn Battuta, venturing in the unknown land of my psyche; music is the ship with which I sail through the sea of different emotions and thoughts. On  a music listening session I might jot down any new ideas that occupy my mind and use them in my writing or in my life later on. 

Or maybe I don't always jot down ideas - listening to music also brings me to present moment. And I love savoring that moment by just lying down eyes closed on my bed, often listening to music is close to a holy experience for me.

In the hard moments of my life, music has been a way of expressing my emotions when there have not been people around me or courage in me to talk through my feelings. Through music I can also express emotions in a way I could never with words. 

Through music I can keep myself in anchored to who I feel I really am - without music I fear I could lose this touch. Music can be a wordless world and as such, it's free from categories that words have attached to them.

Other than music, I study special education and writing, hang out and volunteer in the entrepreneurship, arts and hippie circles. I  read a lot, write a lot and watch many (documentary) films.
