The question is- We say that the divine works through an individual and we also say that doing one’s karma is one’s own responsibility, then where does the divine will and our doer ship start and end.

Om Swami says that when one person comes into another person’s life which results in them not liking the things starting to happen in their life, as they have no control over it, then it is their prarabdh karma. Whenever we step into someone’s life, it is that person’s prarabdh and new karma is born. Whenever one does something as they want to do it, then they are creating new karma. Om Swami says that results of prarabdh karma need not always be from previous lifetimes. Sometimes one can get the result in the same lifetime and it all depends on what kind of actions they did. He says, whatever is in our hands, the responsibility for that too remains only with us and we cannot say that it is divine will. If a person has done an action then that action has been done by that person alone. The blame cannot be shifted to someone else saying that they had influenced them. For one’s thought is their own and only they themselves own it. The more one’s thinking progresses the better will their actions be. For its one’s thought which influences all actions ultimately.

The question asked here was - How can a householder balance between worship, his householder’s duties and happiness, all together?

Om Swami says that if a person irrespective of whether he/she is a householder, celibate or a renunciate, understands to do his/her duty like a sadhana (disciplined surrender) then they will not be unhappy. He says that there are three reasons as to why a person feels sad and disgruntled. One is that they have something or someone in their lives that they don’t want. Or, they don’t have something that they really desire. And lastly, they may feel that certain people do not qualify for good things in their life but actually have them. Om Swami says that if someone feels that others in the world are happier and better off than them, then that is sheer ignorance and an illusion. If a person learns to live his/her life with compassion towards oneself and learns to treat all work as one’s pious duty then all work will be like a sadhana. He says that a householder’s work is a sadhana which is in many ways higher than that of a renunciate. Attainment and liberation for a householder is easier compared to that of a renunciate.

How Does One Balance Spiritual and Material Life - [Hindi]

Two questions have been answered by Om Swami in this discourse.
The first question asked was- Ma Janaki has been given different versions in different languages and in scriptures like Ram charit Manas and in some other scriptures too. What is the real truth about the birth of Goddess Sita?
Om Swami says that Ma Janaki was king Janak’s daughter. He further says that there are two ways of seeing things. Either we believe that the scriptures are true or we think that it is fictional. In both Ramayana and Mahabharata the person who played an important role was found in a box. In Ramayana Janaki Ma was found in a box while king Janak was tilling the land. In Mahabharata Karna was floated away by his mother in a box. Without both of them the battle that took place may not have happened he says. The Ramayana and the Mahabharata were written in metre form so that memorising was easy. But still passing it on in the oral form could have resulted in minor errors. So it is difficult to say if Ma Janaki was found in a box in the ground, but nevertheless Ma Janaki was none other than the universal mother he says.
Om Swami says that for him everyone who was connected to Shri Ram in any way was only shri Ram - the people who were killed by him and those who were with him. All of them are worthy of worship and this is the sentiment that gives him great happiness.
The second question asked was- If Om Swami could shed some light on the term biological father Vs spiritual father.
Om Swami says that just like a biological father will want their children to do well and do good, similarly a spiritual father wishes the same. Though the sentiments are the same, it’s a different kind of relationship. The difference is that a spiritual father takes on a disciple’s karma by seeing if it can be distributed over lifetimes or can be taken care of at one go so that the person attains liberation. This right to take on the karma has been given by the lineage, the rishis, and our scriptures says Om Swami.
