Living Life By Your Personal Philosophy - [Hindi]

This is part 2 of a 4 part series. The first video in the series was Living Life by your Personal Philosophy. 
In this discourse, Om Swami says that everybody has their own personal way of living their life. People may have lofty aims of self-realization or some such thing but that need not necessarily bring happiness to a person. Having their own philosophy and living according to it will give a person the satisfaction and happiness that they lived their life according to their principles he says. Om Swami further says that one should retire to bed at the same time every day as the mind becomes ready and the body gets used to it. He says that it is also important to have food in moderation and not till the point of satisfaction as partaking in food is like a sacred relationship and conversation with God and therefore it should be had in that spirit.

How To Practice Zen In Daily Life - [Hindi ]

Two questions have been answered by Om Swami in this discourse. The first question asked was- In human life we fall down many times, get bruised, get up and walk again to fall down again. Is this normal and the usual pattern of human life?

Om Swami says that this is the usual pattern but if one is walking a straight path then the chances of falling down are lesser. Walking without running, keeping one’s eyes open and on the road will avoid accidents. The same applies to life he says. If one is living a straight forward life the chances of slipping and falling and getting hurt will be few. To rise above our conditioned mind one has to rise above the usual mind set and think in a new way he says.

What is the way to get to Ishwara Prapti? First, we need to understand is it necessary to attain God? Why do we need to attain God? Sri Krishna says to Arjuna that sometimes people get so tied up with the comforts of life that they become lazy. This kind of comfort puts them into sleep. They don’t realize what is truth,lie, right or wrong. They become lazy. What is the definition of laziness? The emotion that stops you from doing what you want to do is laziness. These comforts also make them careless. What is carelessness? When you keep doing things without realizing its purpose is carelessness. This kind of sukh (pleasure) is tamasi in nature. All the sukhas that we get from outside are tamasi in nature. These tamasi sukhas that people acquire from outside make them indifferent towards their purpose of life. 

Arjuna surrenders to Sri Krishna completely by saying that I am ignorant therefore I don’t know what is right or wrong for me. I will do what you think is right for me. But a normal person does not have that conviction.

The first and foremost thing you need to change is the perspective, a viewpoint, and a standpoint. If you are holding on to just one viewpoint, you will not be able to get the real truth. There comes a time a when you are tired and then you realize the truth. Buddha said that there are two mistakes a person can make, either they don’t tread a path or start on the path and leave it in the middle. When you tread a path with determination, you will get to the destination. You will know the purpose of your existence.

Tapasyā - [Hindi] - 1

Sri Krishna says to Arjuna that you may renounce all karma but you should not renounce yajna, tapas and charity because these three karmas purify the soul and the individual. Some people say renounce all the karma that is only for your own selfish motives. Some say renounce the fruits of your karma, karma being an action as opposed to destiny. But Krishna says you should do your karma as unattached as possible. Such a person who is not attached to his desired karma is a true yogi and the one who does not keep on complaining and or doing something that they do not want to do is a sign of a good yogi, a good sannyasi, a good renunciate. Why? Because is not possible to renounce the karma completely. When we are thinking we are doing karma with our mind, when we are speaking we are doing karma with our speech and when we are using our limbs we are doing karma with our senses.

Since you cannot renounce karma, then why not only do karma that is actually going to take you further? Therefore, do yajna, tapas and daan (charity). Yajna is a service; serving yourself is also a type of yajna, serving others is a yajna, like atithi yajna, dev yajna, brahma yajna. Tapas is leading a life of good conduct.
