Inspired by a recurring dream I used to have about endlessly sinking in a deep ocean I came up with this ambient-ish track. Didn't occur to me to look up what a dream like that can mean until recently and it turns out there are both negative and positive interpretations possible if one is to believe all-knowing Google. 

On a desperate note "To dream of sinking represents feelings of slow loss, despair, or losing ground. You are feeling overwhelmed or unable to stop a negative situation from getting worse. A fear of unstoppable failure. Someone or something is dragging you down. You may be experiencing low self-esteem and confidence. Needing help that is either not available or that you are not being assertive enough about asking for. Feeling pressure to make a decision or change before total embarrassment occurs. A situation that is deteriorating. Feelings about your worst fears becoming a reality. Feelings about being unable to help others. Feeling that you can’t stop your life from getting worse."

Now, I can't remember ever feeling like that when I was having this dream - it's been over 10 years since the last one. But, who knows, maybe those were my subconscience feelings.
 
I prefer a more positive view "A dream about sinking may reflect an unpleasant stage of your life that is coming to an end. Problems or bad people that seem to be slowly going away on their own. Experiencing your enemies succumbing to humiliation."

That last sentence may be wishful thinking haha...., not that I can think of any enemies.

Dream Repeat

This song is dedicated to one of my best friends. A fascinating person, but one who is permanently under the pressure of electricity, driven by a burning desire for deep inner peace and yet constantly restlessly searching. In one of our intensive conversations he said about himself: "My longing is holding me tight". - And in this way the title of this song was born. 
Yesterday he called me and said: “Karl, the Corona crisis is terrible on the one hand. It creates a lot of illness, financial threats and, due to the increasing restrictions on the exit, possibly an escalation of violence. 
On the other hand, the rapid disruption of everything that has been my daily habits forces me to face more of the three basic questions of life that I have been running away from so often:
Who am I really? How do I want to shape the relationship with my loved ones?And: What place do I basically want to take in society and the world?”
And then something happened that I had not known about him before: He paused, and there was a pleasant silence on the phone line. Finally he said: "You might be surprised; with all the shit that Corona brings with it, the forced deceleration associated with it does me a tremendous amount of good. I finally get a little bit of that inner peace I've always longed for.”
Maybe this little monologue of my friend will help all those who are struck with the Corona crisis (...and therefore me, too) to see in this current "world tsunami" also a chance for profound change...

In the Corona crisis I experience the world like a kind of monastery. On the one hand connected with much renunciation and privations, with restrictions and abstinence. On the other hand, however, offering one the chance to learn to be amazed again in the silence and seclusion that results from the worldwide regulations. To have time to really let oneself be touched by something that has so far been hastily pressed into blinker-categories. To be surprised by revelations that must have remained hidden in the everyday functioning.    
To be able to say "Wow!" again in every cell of one' s body, however, also requires sometimes to free oneself completely from the now omnipresent digital availability. Unfortunately, the crisis leads partly there even more into digital obsessions. But even there I hope that at some point the weariness after the increasing dullness in the X-th Netflix series, among others, will set in and the desire for real encounters will come forward.

When I met my wife almost 25 years ago, none of my friends and relatives gave a single damn about this relationship. We were quarrelling often and got into each other's hair over every little thing.
Interestingly however, some couples, who at that time were somewhat complacent about their great harmony, are no longer together today. At some point, so much conflict dirt had accumulated under the flowery carpet, that the permanent smile turned into hostility, contempt and finally: Separation. 
My wife and I still quarrel today - although not as intensely and often as before. But then as now these sometimes painful disputes often lead to a an even deeper and more tender encounter. 
In view of this dialectic, I had the idea of naming this song, which describes our relationship, "Wild Harps".

Time To Go

For me sovereignty means: to stand back without taking off. Having an overview, a vision, a prudence and at the same time remaining in a deep connection with what I am currently looking at;
means for me: to float, a kind of flying, like becoming an eagle and at the same moment a centipede, who feels with every touch the earth that carries me;
means for me: to know my own possibilities and limits well, like a tightrope walker balancing the antinomies of life;
means for me: to become silent, to be peacefully still, to act and express myself by simply being there....and so it comes that this song gets along without words.   
While recording this song I imagined myself sitting on a mountain; completely alone and totally connected to what surrounds me. 
I hope that some of the sovereignty, as I understand it, comes across in this purely instrumental track.

Einleitung in deutscher Sprache:

Souveränität heißt für mich: Abstand nehmen, ohne abzuheben. Einen Überblick, eine Weitsicht, eine Umsichtigkeit haben und zugleich in einer tiefen Verbundenheit mit dem bleiben, was ich gerade betrachte;
heißt für mich: schweben, eine Art fliegen, wie zu einem Adler werden und im selben Moment ein Tausendfüßler sein, der mit jeder Berührung die Erde spürt, die mich trägt;
heißt für mich: Die eigenen Möglichkeiten und Grenzen gut kennen, wie ein Seiltänzer die Antinomien des Lebens austarieren;
heißt für mich: still werden, friedvoll schweigen, durch einfaches dasein wirken und sich ausdrücken.....und so kommt es, daß dieser Song mal ganz ohne Worte auskommt.   
Bei der Aufnahme dieses Songs habe ich mir vorgestellt, auf einem Berg zu sitzen; völlig alleine und völlig verbunden mit dem, was mich umgibt. 
Ich hoffe, daß von der Souveränität, wie ich sie verstehe, ein wenig in diesem reinen Instrumental-Track rüberkommt.

Aradmith is a dark ambient project founded in Georgia/sakartvelo/adjara in 2023.
