Latin GOGO Fusion - Bridging Cultures through Rhythms

Growing up listening to the infectious beats of GOGO music, a quintessential part of the Washington DC music scene, I always felt the pulsating vibes and infectious energy of the genre. However, as a Latino, I longed to hear the fusion of GOGO with my own cultural heritage. In my pursuit to blend these two musical worlds, I embarked on a journey that has now resulted in the creation of the "Latin GOGO Fusion" project.

My inspiration ignited when I stumbled upon an unreleased prototype of GOGO mixed with a Latin song that was never released, created by Cuba el Monstro De las Melodias, alongside the talented Latin artist Fuego back in 2004. This unique blend of musical styles left a lasting impression on me, and I felt a deep-seated desire to revive and amplify this fusion. A few years later, Latin Artist Gordo Brega created a Latin GOGO Band called "ASG," providing a glimpse into the exciting future of this fusion.

Today, with the "Latin GOGO Fusion" project, we fill a void that once existed in the musical landscape. The Latino community in the DMV (DC, Maryland, Virginia) area, just like me, has grown up with a shared love for GOGO music. With our project, we aim to cater to this community, celebrating the rich cultural diversity and the universal language of music.

A pivotal source of inspiration came from a fellow DJ, Pedro Night, who had ingeniously merged a Bad Bunny acapella with GOGO rhythms. Pedro, from Adobo DMV, graciously allowed me to collaborate with his organization to create a Latin GOGO Showcase, which was performed at the Kennedy Center in 2021 by local talents in the DMV. This collaboration sparked my creativity and motivated me to search for songs that perfectly embody the essence of Latin Music in a GOGO format. The result is an electrifying fusion of genres that brings GOGO to new audiences and spaces.

Our hope is that these Latin GOGO edits will not only entertain but also serve as a catalyst for new GOGO bands that embrace Spanish lyrics. We envision a future where GOGO is as inclusive and diverse as the DMV area itself, where different cultures come together to create a harmonious blend of rhythm and melody.

In addition to these Latin GOGO edits, I've also ventured into classic R&B tracks and collaborated with independent artists on original releases. These experiences have enriched my musical journey, allowing me to explore the timeless sounds of R&B and nurture emerging talent within the independent music scene.

This project is not just a tape of remixes; it's a labor of love, a celebration of heritage, and an open invitation to explore new possibilities in the world of music. We've had the privilege of curating a selection of tracks that capture the spirit of GOGO, Latin music, classic R&B, and the creativity of independent artists. And, we're excited to announce that there's more to come. Stay tuned for Vol. 2, where we will continue to expand the boundaries of musical fusion.
