Maybe I'm a stranger
Inside this train car filled with smiles all around
I frown
Maybe I'm in danger
It feels as though onto this seat I've been tied down
I'm bound
Sittin' on the train

I don't remember boardin'
or when my journey to this unknown, distant land
was planned
Was it just this mornin'?
Or was it long before the odyssey of man
began?
Sittin' on the train

All the passengers
were promised they'd reach paradise
where bluebirds sing in harmony
and the soul is free

So when are we gon' get there?
They say we'll get there many years before we die
I sigh
They say there'll be a fanfare
There will be trumpets, bells, and fireworks in the sky
So I'm
sittin' on the train

[Interlude]

All the passengers

But now it's been a long time
As we get old and grey, this engine loses steam
it seems
But we ain't heard no bells chime
because the promise we were made was just a scheme
a dream
And I'm still sittin' on the train
