'Aggelos first approached Lurid Music with the idea for this project a few months ago. We agreed on one condition, that all proceeds be donated to refugee causes, like we did with his Black Sea EP which supported the Syrian refugee crisis. When Russia invaded Ukraine, we decided our focus had to be helping the Ukrainian refugees who were forced to leave their homes in search of safe havens abroad.

We discussed this with most contributors to the project and the consensus was that donations should strictly go to humanitarian groups and not any armament funds. There were also some thoughts about helping conflict-affected peoples in other parts of the world but we decided it was too much to tackle for a relatively small project like this one.

Therefore, donations stemming from the sales of this release will be distributed to the following humanitarian groups currently active in Ukraine or neighboring countries welcoming refugees:

This illustration is an homage to Maria Prymachenko’s “May That Nuclear War be Cursed!”, which also inspired the title of this release. Embracing Midgar's story-tale approach, 'Da Nao Tian Gong' (also known as 'Havoc in Heaven') stands as https://soundcloud.com/polygonia's latest four-track EP. YYARD, also known as Yannis Anft from Cologne, brings his unique blend of musical styles to the forefront with the ‚San Astéria EP‘. This ninth release on our label infuses traditional breakbeats with dub and hip-hop influences.

Opening with ‚Swallow,‘ the EP sets an enchanting tone, featuring intricate synth sequences and rhythmic mastery that showcase YYARD‘s jazz influences. Following this mesmerizing start, the title track ‚San Astéria‘ offers a smoother, spheric vibe with its dub-infused beats and jazzy harmonies, creating a dreamy auditory landscape. The energy shifts with ‚Leisure Spleen,‘ which creates an irresistibly groovy atmosphere that makes it impossible not to move. The Mission

Channeling peak-era dark garage ambience and contemporary trance stomper technology in the same breath, on their debut collaboration Silhouette (AKA Vision of 1994) and Kobayashi Maru join forces on Amphibian Records for The Mission, a 4-track EP that airlifts the snarl and frayed temper of early dubstep into the psychedelic frontiers of modern dance music.

On the A1, the title track’s driving 140BPM two-step thunder, scored with doomy metallic bellowing reminiscent of early Distance and a rolling bassline right out of Big Apple’s playbook; on the flip, Last Transmission’s frosty atmospherics and crisper-than-snow UKG-inflected percussion, a sharp retort on every third beat superimposed onto a trance-techno model.

Two lower-tempo cuts kiss each runout groove, with no lessening up in sound pressure. Winter Outpost is at the last of its tensile strength, neo-noir synths pulled skin tight over a frame of sharpened breakbeat, while End Credits shakes it all loose with a serpentine beat, a note of wistful melancholia belying the weight behind its punch.

Four cuts of divergent dance music, shaped by the waters that fed Amphibian Records’ tastes — dubstep, garage, techno, trance, trip-hop, etcetera — but charting new territory on the cusp of the known.

Kobayashi Maru is a Prague-based producer & DJ who moves sound with psy/tek flavour, techno and bass influence, organic textures and complex, pacey rhythms. A member of the Amphibian collective, Kobayashi Maru also creates music and performs live as the duo DDAT, with atch22. He is also associated with Prague’s Ankali nightclub, where he works and performs.

Silhouette, aka Vision of 1994, has made an indelible impact on the Czech nightlife scene over many years as a shapeshifting DJ and producer, through his sets and productions developing a sound rooted in the UK spirit with an Eastern European temperament.
