who each bring their unique style to the record.
Emily Molloy (CAN) gets sultry on “Love Me, Love
You”, layering her smokey voice on a laid back
Thievery Corporation influenced vibe. 
DC Native Edy Blu (USA) drops some lovely soulful jazzy vocals
on the title track “Pillow Talk”, backed up with a string
section and propelled by sublime trip hop beats.
“Candy” features Linda Janssen (AUS/NZ) who
gives us a 70’s retro-soul summer vibe to fall in love to. 
Lily Lindsay (AU) gets us all starry eyed and dreamy
with her trippy floating vocals on “Whisper” to close
out the collection and leaves us feeling like we are
wrapped in a fuzzy blanket.

Don’t call it a retrospective! Ten years may be a major milestone for any record label these days but Washington, DC’s funky little indie, Fort Knox Recordings, appears to have hit it in stride with a bass bin full of momentum and no time for looking back. What started in 2003 as a home-base for the Fort Knox Five’s prodigious stream of dance floor crushers has evolved in to the genre-defying pride of the Nation’s Capitol with a roster that delights and dabbles in Funk, Bass, Latin, Reggae, Disco, Rock, House and Breaks, not to mention Chillout, Psychedelia and Indie.

“10 Years of Fort Knox Recordings” gives a quick taste of all the artists that make up the roster. The first five years saw the rise of Fort Knox Five and it’s immediate spinoff acts: Speedy Consuela, Liftoff and Rob Myers’ (from Thievery Corporation’s “Lebanese Blonde”) Sitar-infused, International Velvet. Then came the era of the collaborators as the close friends and associates of the Fort Knox family brought their own acts into the fold: See-I, DC’s Reggae-Soul superstars; Empresarios, kings of Tropicaliente; Nappy Riddem, aficionados of the Dancehall Funk; and All Good Funk Alliance, masters of Electro Disco.

Also making their first appearances on “10 Years of Fort Knox Recordings” are two like-minded artists whose friendship and remixing skills got them through the vaunted door to the Fort Knox vault. Australia’s Omegaman drops a Latin Big Beat sizzler called “El O‘man Boogaloo,” its tight horns and fat bass stick it right in the Fort Knox wheelhouse. And DC-native, QDup, brings the vintage Hip Hop & Breaks vibe to “Rock On It” a track that introduces local MC sensation Flex Mathews, who will also be appearing in full effect on the upcoming Fort Knox Five full length.

20 songs that span the last ten years of Fort Knox Recordings, cover the globe of sounds & genres and open the door to the future of Funk. It’s what you’ll be dancing to this weekend at the club.

Sydney, Australia’s Omegaman made a big splash Stateside last summer with  El O’Man Boogaloo, his debut release on Fort Knox Recordings. 
A longtime producer, collaborator and remixer, Omegaman has already left a mark on the international funk and breaks scene. Always looking to push the funky envelope of groovy breakbeats mixed with Latin and Reggae flavors, Omegaman employs seemingly super-human powers to meld a rotating cast of horns, sweat, percussion and vocalists.
For his new Hot Sauce EP, Omegaman draws upon his atlas of contacts to craft a global groove sure to please his devotees. The prolific vocalist Patou of Melbourne Ska Orchestra is featured on Lovers Skank, a wicked ska stepper that will get the dancefloor skankin’ out! A tropical Latin vibe follows on Oye Como Suena, a thick slice of Latin funk featuring guest vocalist Frankie Rosado of the Empresarios. Omegaman tapped longtime Fort Knox Five and Thunderball vocalist Mustafa Akbar of Nappy Riddem for the upbeat ragga-funk tune Follow Me, rock steady reggae for the heads. And the EP ends on a strong note, with guest vocals from Vincent Sebastian of the Afro-Colombian group Watussi on A Bailar, a funky salsa groove sure to get the people dancing.

Omegaman has been producing music, djing and performing live in bands for many years, and that deep musical experience shines on this EP where his distinctive, funky, breakbeat sound is allowed to conquers the realms of Ska, Latin, Reggae, Funk, Salsa and Beyond.

This little gem is from back in 2003, way before Omegaman. One of my best buddies Andy Travers & I worked on a bunch of tracks - we were known as NEMO (before the Disney movie)- we spent our days crate digging for lounge samples & funky beats. HEY! was done on an old Atari ST computer with external midi sound modules (Korg, Ensoniq + an Akai sampler) + Greg Dean playing some super cheezy keys - all bounced down through a sound desk to cassette (it was the perfect soundtrack for my old 1960's Hillman Minx.) We did some great tunes back then along with the master of midi & keys Phil Grove, the lovely vocals of Linda Janssen - the artwork for this is by the incredibly talented Nigel O'Neill - enjoy!

Omegaman and Edy Blu were introduced online by mutual friend and contact Jon Horvath of Fort Knox Five.   Edy Blu is a Washington, DC based vocalist who never met Omegaman in person until the Spring of 2018.  She found herself on walkabout in Australia and met Omegaman at his Studio 57 outside of Sydney.  The two started talking and naturally the conversation turned to their mutual friend JonH and they really felt the vibe in the room and started working on a new original tune together, inspired by the Love & Light of their departed dear friend.   This song is dedicated to the memory and inspiration of Jon and Pamela Horvath.

The Barcelona-based duo, Los Chicos Altos, team up with Afro-Colombian folkloric group Palo Q'Sea to deliver a brand new EP on UrbanWorld Records. After highly successful contributions to compilations on Wonderwheel Records, the new EP entitled El Diablo Alegre continues the bands' collaboration which mixes indigenous South American and traditional Afro-Latin music with modern electronic production.

The title song "El Diablo Alegre" (The Happy Devil) fuses steel drum melodies with funk-filled basslines and dancehall reggae beats. Mr. R of Novalima adds heavy Afro-Peruvian rhythms in his remix of the track, while Fort Knox Five Recording artist Omegaman transforms it into laid-back breaks. "Chande" is based on an upbeat party rhythm originating from carnival on Colombia's Caribbean coast and is a dance known "from Colombia to China." "Chande" is chopped up and reconstructed by K.Sabroso and Axel Cloud into a latin/b-more style, while UWR label-mates Superpendejos head in a catchy, latin tech-house direction. "La Canoa" gets its salsa-flavored groove on, while "Salta Corazon" morphs from cumbia to reggae before it's flipped jump-up jungle stylee.

El Diablo Alegre is the combo's most diverse and and complete release to date--where the elements of tradition and innovation, old and new, organic and electronic truly fuse into something greater than the parts.
