I also hear new stuff that I hadn’t noticed before when I listen to his music - the track with Jack Wilson that opens the mix up is so heavy and cosmic for its time, and I’d forgotten about the track with Wayne Henderson! There are so many great albums out there including the 2 Virgin Ubiquities BBE put out... We could devote a whole week of radio programmes to Roy, his archive is so large… 

He is the key to all things between jazz, soul, disco and hip hop…. Thank you roy for all the music...

I made this in the sky while I was on my way home from Pennsylvania for the Boiler Room Weekender. What an experience! Super grateful for this year and all the wonderful gigs I've gotten to play, amazing people I've met and the beautiful places I've travelled. I'm also very thankful for all of you that continue to support me and my vision.

Cook County Jail: The Visible and Invisible is an audio documentary by artist, Maria Gaspar, that intertwines community member’s perspectives of the experience of living adjacent to the largest single-site jail in the country. The Cook County Jail in Chicago, located at 26th and California in the Little Village Community, was estimated to hold about 10,000 detainees in 2013 (when this piece was produced). Gaspar, a native of Little Village, produced this collection of reflections that reveals how the jail, at times, is both visible and invisible to the local community.

Maria Gaspar is an interdisciplinary artist negotiating the politics of location through installation, sculpture, sound, and performance. Gaspar’s work addresses issues of spatial justice in order to amplify, mobilize, or divert structures of power through individual and collective gestures. Her work spans formats and durations, including sound performances at a military site in New Haven ("Sounds for Liberation"); long-term public art interventions at the largest jail in the country (96 Acres Project, Chicago); appropriations of museum archives ("Brown Brilliance Darkness Matter"); and audio-video works, documenting a jail located in her childhood neighborhood ("On the Border of What is Formless and Monstrous"). 

Gaspar has exhibited at venues including the MCA, Chicago, IL; Jack Shainman Gallery, New York, NY; Artspace, New Haven, CT; African American Museum, Philadelphia, PA; amongst many others. Gaspar is the recipient of an Imagining Justice Art Grant, a Robert Rauschenberg Artist as Activist Fellowship, an Art Matters Grant, a Creative Capital Award, a Joan Mitchell Emerging Artist Grant, a Sor Juana Women of Achievement Award in Art and Activism from the National Museum of Mexican Art, and a Chamberlain Award for Social Practice at the Headlands Center for the Arts. Gaspar was named Chicagoan of the Year in the Arts in 2014 by art critic and historian, Lori Waxman. She is an Associate Professor at the Art Institute of Chicago, holds an MFA in Studio Arts from the University of Illinois at Chicago, and a BFA from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY.
