This one's special to me. When Michael Badon first played me his original track "Neat Stuff," I heard something beneath the surface, a raw vulnerability that deserved to be pulled into the light. Working with Claude, we completely reimagined it as this emotional journey that starts in a cathedral and ends in the streets.

I wanted to blend worlds that don't usually touch. The first half channels Sam Smith's aching falsetto and Chris Stapleton's bluesy soul, all church organs, strings, and sparse piano. It's intimate, confessional, like you're overhearing a prayer. Then we flip it entirely. The second verse drops into this Kendrick-inspired conscious rap section with trap production, 808s hitting hard, rapid hi-hats, the whole West Coast hip-hop treatment.

Claude helped me craft lyrics that move from personal struggle to broader social commentary, weaving intricate wordplay with real emotion. The production mirrors that arc, starting with cathedral acoustics and building to this explosive gospel choir climax with a key change that just lifts everything skyward.

Working with Claude, we built this around the hypnotic repetition of "deep within", it's almost mantra like, drilling into your head (pun intended) while the 808s slide and snap underneath. The production opens with that classic VHS crackle and ambient synth pads before the beat drops into tight hi-hats, glitchy cowbells, and absolutely crushed bass that rattles your chest.

I was listening to a lot of Sabrina Carpenter and thinking about how pop music intersects with capitalism, consumerism, spirituality... and I wanted to make something that captured that absurd, beautiful, dystopian reality we're all living in.

Working with Claude, we built this concept around finding enlightenment in the most unlikely place: the mall. "Meditation between the Gucci and the Nike", that line sums up the whole vibe. It's satirical but also kind of sincere? Like, maybe the only transcendence available to us now IS through our screens, our purchases, our algorithms.

The lyrics explore that weird space where the sacred and profane collapse into each other, Buddha on your iPhone, Greek statues in Air Force Ones, corporate mantras as spiritual practice. It's commentary, but it's also just... honest about where we actually find meaning now.

Neon Dharma
