Rainstorm

This track is called magnetic dust because I burned out a whole tape delay cartridge making it- leaving magnetized tape dust everywhere... you can hear the dirtier echoes were tracked later. This degraded sound kind of shaped the song- like dubstep that somehow corroded...   All the synth parts are voltage controlled analog- triggered from midi loops, no audio loops used. No reverb. Lots of component drift! The only audio effects on this track are eq and hardware tape echo ))))))  Enjoy. <3

Magnetic Dust

HAPPY SOLSTICE! Tonight we celebrate the longest night of the year, and welcome the returning sun. Embracing new life, and letting go of old pain. This track was made with only analog hardware sound sources- (including percussion). There are no audio loops used. The only effects used are slight eq, compression, analog filters, and hardware tape delay. There are several different hardware sequencers chained, playing off each other as components drift- making harmonics pile up, and bring forward moving sideband frequencies, before they vanish in a rush of tape echo, and a sequence retriggers.   I called it Carbon and Silicon, because as I lost myself working with all of the devices in the studio, I began to feel a kinship with my synths, and all my other pet robots, like I was the leader of a robot jam band... So, I started thinking of it not as my creation, but as a collaboration between me, a carbon based entity, and these little silicon based lifeforms, who are my musicians...
