ses traits cruels sont comme maudits.
Planqué sous une porte cochère,
il cherche une proie pour la nuit

Invité au seuil des terrasses,
il choisit qui sera puni.
Parmi les enfants qui rêvassent,
il fait son marché, puis son tri.

Quand ses doigts légers vagabondent
sur le corps qui s'est endormi,
les esprits s'apaisent et se fondent 
dans la torpeur de la nuit.

The Lure of the Sea

With lines as smooth as tender youth
And a powerful mother,
Then I would challenge the sea.

High in the bow with transom stern
With plenty of beam and a sturdy keel
And a large propellor,

Proud at the wheel of this fifty footer
With Decca and radar and VHF
And an echo sounder
Then I would challenge the sea

Night sea witches and stormy devils
Could scratch and scare and whine and moan
But I'd not care,
But should I challenge the sea?

Only a fool would think such things
Toamtch a mister so strong and wide
Oh the watery coffin



Study the moods of this mighty giant
And venture not if the wind and he
Do disagree,
