The Duo Okvsho is one of the most promising prospects of upcoming musicians and producers from Switzerland. The two brothers grew up in the city of Zurich with influences from oldschool beatmaking and house/electronic music to the modern Jazz-Scene, Funk and Neosoul.

They started out their musical careers at a very young age in Brazilian percussion groups and, due to their Hungarian roots, they are also familiar with traditional Balkan music.

With the release of their “Traphouse Jazz EP“ in 2018 and their debut album “Kamala’s Danz“ in 2020 via Boyoom Connective, Okvsho gained the attention of a wider audience through placements in Bandcamp Weekly, NTS Radio and the very popular Spotify-Playlist “State of Jazz“.

After effortlessly transitioning from sample based bedroom beats and loop heavy productions to self composed songs, Okvsho managed to elevate their sounds even further. Through playing with local jazz-musicians, their live-band project celebrated jazz as dance music with driving rhythms.

Orange wine is made with an ancient production method for natural wines, with as little human intervention as possible and celebrates simplicity and complexity of natural processes, in harmony with the surrounding ecosystem.

The Orange Wine EP, their first release on the label record Hip Dozer, seems like a logical new step for the duo who once again, expanded their musical horizons. For this project, they get back to their roots and combine the simplicity of beat making with the playful and improvised jazz elements the duo is known for. Funkier than ever, their full EP reflects the new exotic vibes of the modern jazz scene. By adding live instrumentation, tropical drums and dancing beats, the group shows how to surf on the smooth and groovy wave of jazzy house music.

OKVSHO - Orange Wine [Full Album]

When Paul Murphy released his critically acclaimed debut solo album, Claremont 56, in 2006, many thought it would be the first of many. In a way, it was, as in the years since he’s released a string of collaborative sets alongside Benjamin J Smith (as Smith & Mudd), and as part of underground ‘supergroups’ Paqua, Bison and Hillside. But that second solo album? Well, it just had to wait.

In early 2023, Murphy finally decided to scratch that itch, roping in some of his most trusted collaborators (keyboardist and bassist Michele Chiavarini, percussionist Patrick Dawes, guitarist Dave Noble and HF International’s Kashif included) to lay down a sumptuous set of tracks that not only showcases his now familiar (bit hard to pigeonhole) neo-Balearic sound, but also proves how much he has matured as a writer and producer since 2006.

In The Garden of Mindfulness is richly musically detailed, expertly arranged and full to bursting with fluid instrumental solos, with Murphy and his collaborators serving up tracks that brilliantly blur the boundaries between languid jazz-funk, downtempo, vintage synth-laden krautrock, dubby grooves and sun-splashed soundscapes.

It simply sparkles from the moment that opener ‘Eighty Three’ slowly rises like the morning sun, with gentle, undulating synth sounds ushering in a slow-motion jazz-funk excursion rich in twinkling electronics, spacey pads and warming bass. Recent single ‘Katanaboy’, a lusciously layered dub disco-infused dancefloor excursion in Murphy’s familiar style, raises the temperature a touch, before ‘Bonne Anse’ and the sublime ‘Unka Paw’ (whose combination of evocative fretless bass, extended electric piano solos, Clavinet licks and acoustic guitars is genuinely spellbinding) invite a combination of wavy shuffling and flat-on-the-back, eyes-closed appreciation.

And so it continues, with gorgeous title track ‘In The Garden of Mindfulness’ making way for the boogie-influenced, Japanese-British brilliance of ‘Hangsang’ (check the jaunty pianos, yearning breakdown and exotic melodies). Murphy’s long held love of warm, weighty bass, hypnotic disco grooves, colourful analogue synth sounds and jazzy guitars once again comes to the fore on ‘Afternoon Bob’ before the album reaches a fittingly triumphant conclusion with ‘Late In March’. 

A neat sonic summary of all that makes the set such a rewarding and entertaining experience, repeat listens reveals a wealth of musical details, from off-kilter triple-time drums and surprise bass guitar solos, to impeccable piano solos (provided by the immensely talented Chiavarini), fizzing jazz-funk synth doodles and stirring synth-strings. It’s a breathlessly brilliant way to end an album that was genuinely worth waiting for.

Peter Kruder & Richard Dorfmeister’s groundbreaking ‘K&D Sessions’ compilation from 1998 gets an overdue reissue on !K7 Records and is made available digitally for the first time ever

Originally released on Studio !K7 Records in 1998, Peter Kruder and Richard Dorfmeister's groundbreaking release, 'The K&D Sessions' reset the bar for what could be achieved in a compilation.  Across an array of original tracks, dubs and infamous ‘K&D Session’ remixes, the DJ and producer duo took the listener on a smoke-filled blunted journey that flowed flawlessly.  Often compared to DJ Shadow's 'Endtroducing' for it's similarly deft craft of rhythm and quoted by Allmusic as "the most blissfully blunted music the world has ever heard", the album has sold over 1,000,000 copies to date and was included in Spin’s ‘Top 20 albums of 1999’.

The album has long since been deleted on Vinyl with original 4LP sets changing hands for €300+ on the collectors market and even a bootleg vinyl copy will set a buyer back over €100.  More big news comes in the fact that the album has never been officially available digitally or to stream and !K7 have spent a number of painstaking years hunting down original rights holders and clearing the licenses in order to do so.  Sixteen years later, this legendary album will be available as a long overdue mastered for iTunes digital edition on 17 November 2014. Following in early 2015 will be a 5LP reissue remastered by Bernie Grundman Mastering in Hollywood plus 2CD editions along with audiophile high quality lossless digital format.  All new versions of the album feature 3 tracks not available on the original issue.

Apollo welcomes back German production duo Boozoo Bajou this March, as the pair deliver their ethereal five-track EP, ‘Lambique’.
The duo behind Boozoo Bajou is Peter Heider and Florian Seybeth, a pair whose formidable career began in the mid-nineties. Peter is a multi-faceted artist and well-trained drummer with strong musical influences from jazz, funk and neo-classical experimental music, whilst Florian previously worked at a record shop and ran his own club. Both have performed as DJs at clubs and festivals worldwide. Along with numerous remixes they have released on Apollo, !K7 and Stereo Deluxe, and here they continue to build on their impressive discography with their latest offering ‘Lambique’.
Laidback opener ‘Jadiz’ combines harmonic strings with captivating tones and delicate pads to deliver a genuinely nebulous sunset production. ‘Auxerre’ is a cinematic adventure that leads perfectly to the unique and cerebral ‘Nacht Plätscher’, a track fueled by bright synth lines, emotive chords and slo-mo drums which come together perfectly. ‘Daytripper’ takes listeners through to another dimension, awash with tropical melodies leading to stunning closer ‘Shimmer’. This production strives to take listeners through to the early hours of the morning and the late-night of the evening; it’s a hypnotic number that shapes up this impressive EP in emphatic fashion.
