The latest EP arriving via renowned Munich/Cologne-based label, Jazz & Milk, finds two kindred spirits teaming up for the first time; multi-instrumentalist and producer, Àbáse, and Australian Nu-Soul drummer and studio wunderkind, Ziggy Zeitgeist (who we recently covered on the site with his smash Kreuzberg Kix). Through their mutual love for experimental live instrumentation and modern club music, they have formed Àbáse X Zeitgeist, with Body Mind Spirit EP serving as their official calling card.
	Packed in this sprawling, densely layered EP is a dizzying array of various styles, genres, and musical ideas. Much of the EP derived from improvisatory sessions between Àbáse and Ziggy in Ziggy’s Berlin studio. The two of them spent hours going back and forth, with Àbáse laying down improvised keys and synth work over Ziggy’s drum patterns, who would then mix them to delightfully quirky and eclectic results. The result is something that feels palpably organic and loose, yet grounded in the duo’s affinity for vibey, hard-hitting dance-music grooves. Case-in-point is the centerpiece of the EP, the title track, “Body Mind Spirit”. Coupled with South African-born, Berlin-based artist and singer, Dumama––who brings a stunning traditional South-African vocal performance to the arrangement––the track is a vibrant, hypnotic, eclectically playful cut of world-music-leaning Deep House. 
	On this track, and across the entire EP, the duo displays a formidable knack for taking disparate inspirations and infusing them with their own unique sense of groove-building. There is a deep sense of collaboration and mutual respect for each artist’s singular creative vision that courses throughout the entire project, indicating an exciting, creatively fruitful musical partnership that is only just getting started.

Also included are the meditative breakbeats of Green Flash with electric bass and mellowed out baritone sax. Inner Mist is a mysterious track for the heads, followed by the percussive flute looped Lowereastside and Gumdrop to round everything out, It’s the perfect soundtrack to begin the 30th year of Om Records.

After five years of planning, writing, and refining their sound, London-based production duo Kolectiv are set to release their long-awaited debut drum & bass album, Circadian Rhythms.

The project began in the aftermath of the pandemic, when the pair started setting aside tracks that captured the spirit of a night out at a drum & bass event. Their vision was clear: to create an album that reflects the variety, energy, and progression of a rave – from the first beats that pull you into the closing sounds that carry you home.

“Going out to drum & bass nights, you’d hear so many different flavours across six or seven hours. We wanted the album to follow that same arc – like a circadian rhythm, a natural flow of time, but in this case the cycle of a rave,” Kolectiv explain.

To achieve this, the duo placed a strong emphasis on originality and sound design. Most of the album was built from scratch using their own recorded samples, crafted through sessions with keys, drums, and guitars, and only dipping into external sources when absolutely necessary. Vocal collaborations from PAV4N, Hijak MC, Illmatika and Kerry Donnelly add unique flavour to the project, while carefully placed interludes tie the project together as a complete listening experience.

“This isn’t just a collection of tracks. We wanted it to be a journey – a cradle-to-grave kind of experience – with highs, lows, and moments to breathe.”

The title Circadian Rhythms captures that intention perfectly: an audio diary of a night spent immersed in drum & bass culture, told through Kolectiv’s trademark blend of technical precision and emotional depth.

The project also coincided with a complete studio overhaul, giving Kolectiv a fresh environment to finalize and mix down the record with a renewed sense of clarity and focus.

With Circadian Rhythms, Kolectiv deliver more than an album – they present a story, an atmosphere, and a tribute to the music and culture that shaped them.

Disque La Rayé (60's french west indies Boo-Boo-Galoo) is our latest project curated by Digger's Digest and produced by Born Bad Record and will be out the 25th June. This 13 titles compilation gathers a selection of tracks sounding like a rather unorthodox créole interpretation of the nuyorican Booglaoo, stuck between the strong Yéyé influence coming from the french Metropole and the modern latin fusion emerging from Harlem.

The shelf by the toilet in my childhood home is jam-packed with old memorabilia. And in between all the bits and bobs, I found the greatest objet d’art of them all: Hubbas soundtrack from the late, great film director Arild Kristos’ magnum opus, “Eddie & Suzanne” (1975). A classic, romantic Shakespearean road movie.

One of those who really hated the film, and who should therefore be listened to is the renowned late film critique Pål Bang Hansen. He wrote:

“Arild Kristo wants you to think that lust is all-consuming love, when really it's just endorphins. What makes things even worse is what must be one of the most gloopy and phallic film scores in recent memory: hubbabubbaklubb’s “Eddie & Suzanne”, which seduces teenage girls into paroxysms of romantic grief… blæh!

The beach was busy with human life upon the first date in July. It was as if half of the country had flocked from far and wide to touch down upon the shore and watch the waves slowly roll in against the golden sand. The heat poured down upon the crowds from the radiant sun which shone brightly up high above. The sky was a crystal clear blue and the sound of sweet music travelled softly upon the warm summer breeze. In cafes some watched others swim whilst afraid to dunk their own feet, they drank from straws a golden liquid made for a day beneath the light. 

We love a good edit here at Ransom Note, it can be a fine art, a thing of delicate beauty. The Rollover DJ's have reworked "Che Cavolo Di Vita Fai" in a showcase of balearic beauty.
