Very hyped to host our long time friend Sacha Mambo for this 15th contribution in the series. Lyon-based DJ & producer has been running skillfully Macadam Mambo alongside Guillaume des Bois for almost 10 years. The label has illustrated itself by non-stop releasing since 2012, showcasing a large palette of sounds from Eva Geist, Traxx, Albion, The Pilotwings and many more.
This new mix is a perfect illustration of Sacha's original taste that have no boundaries. Ambient, experimental, jazz, downtempo, psychedelic and so on.  An excellent ovni as we like! Merci Sacha x

"Running down impossible meanders and bends, the slope of the Spree guides me on a suprasensory journey. The selector is standing on a terrace by the river bed. From the water I observe how he makes each choice; he carefully picks the best vinyl possible, like a harvester does as he plucks the sweetest grapes before putting them in the barrel. He blows the miniscule specks of pollen away, but the static electricity doesn’t make it an easy task. People go back and forth on the swings that hang from the majestic plane trees and dirty feet engage in tribal dancing. I've been talking to the water for 25 hours and I don't want the journey to end."

André Pahl (@andrepahl)(Berlin) is known for his Safari mixes—pitched down cinematic journeys through uncharted seas, forbidden deserts and distant galaxies. His sound tends to oscillate between psychedelic trips, spaced out electronics and voodoo percussion, exploring the slowed-down heartbeat of danceable music. Listening to André Pahl’s sets is like being compelled to push yourself inside a forest even though you know it'll be dangerous — head first, then the whole body, submerged deep into a strange jungle world, partly solid, partly made of shimmering liquids.

This set was recorded during the launch of Oddity Radio, which happened in Paris on the 2nd April 2022. A new project initiated by yours truly which is not a radio in the true sense of the word, more a collective hub which gathers a selection of our favorite record labels, showcasing playlists from each of their back catalogues and occasional exclusive mixes. These independent labels are some of the finest of their kind, filled with artists and attitudes that we believe exemplify a creative spirit for the future. Carving a niche in anything from the esoteric to the leftfield, global dance or laidback ambience alike. We strive to open a path into their psyches through sounds, words and visions. Bringing these like-minded folk together for the first time, allowing their tunes to breath harmoniously side by side in a continuous mix of complimentary aural delights.

Sacha is one of those special DJs that really needs no introduction. If you’ve done your work and scrambled through enough podcasts/radio show/gig mixes on Soundcloud, you know who he is. 

The way he manages to find the links between completely disparate styles of music and weave them together to create life changing moments and rich narratives is what really solidified him on the scene, funny how 20 years of experience can have an effect, huh?

When he’s not DJing all over the world, Sacha runs the esteemed Macadam Mambo record Label, showcasing talents from all over the spectrum… much like his own tastemaking to be frank.

André Pahl crafts sonic odysseys. His eclectic selections conjure pitched down cosmic journeys to distant stars, descents into the depths of the ocean and lush, tropical jungles. Infectious, introspective and cinematic, his sound oscillates between psychedelic trips, experimental disco and voodoo percussions, exploring the slowed-down heartbeat of danceable music.

Originally from Düsseldorf by way of Amsterdam, Mexico City and Berlin, he’s been infused with the musical flavour of each new home base while, at the same time, retaining a palette that’s unmistakably his own. With a vast collection of rarities, including choice folk, kosmische and prog rock, André’s firmly plugged into the world of contemporary electronica.

VF Mix 174: Sven-Åke Johansson by Phuong-Dan

DJ and music programmer Phuong-Dan is a passionate “anything-goes” selector. This eclectic open-mindedness can be heard in his sets – fuelled by his Pudel Club residency that spans nearly 20 years alongside international gigs, as well as his project specific audio works and programming. His passion for digging and collecting is ignited by a voracious curiosity, and genreless approach, something that is apparent when you see him play live.

For his VF Mix, Phuong-Dan explores the oeuvre of Swedish composer, multi-instrumentalist and artist Sven-Åke Johansson. For the uninitiated: Johansson is an unsung pioneer of free jazz and the fluxus movement, who never lets boundaries get in the way of his creativity – as likely to play boxes using a stringed bow as he is to wail out improvisational drum compositions.
