On Rotation Mix Series

The next mix in our series comes from one of our favourite under-the-radar selectors in the UK, @joesansom. We first became aware of Joe after he wowed us with amazing sets at Cosmic Roots and Wire, as well as from the gems he regularly uploads to his Youtube channel.

This mix shows the scope and depth of his taste, exemplifying everything we love at On Ro - forward thinking but rooted in the past, showcasing long-forgotten tracks alongside the newest releases without anything sounding out of place.

With a taste and maturity in sound far beyond his years and a real ear for psychedelic groovy sounds, Joe is definitely one to keep an eye on!

DJ Merlín is an Electronic music producer based in Amsterdam. As an alumnus of composition and sound design, he has been sculpting a style that can be characterized as hybrid and animalistic. This style aims to stir up a wilder and darker side of the dancefloor, creating a sonic ambience of experimental yet accessible rhythms and riffs.

Next to being an artist, DJ Merlín is the programmer of Amsterdam collective Kraft.und.licht . Whether it's deep in the Amsterdam forest or in the hull of an old freight ship, they bring together the right ingredients of audience and artists.

Adam Antine is a dj, musician, promoter & vinyl label owner who’s been putting out releases for the past two decades with releases on Pleasure Garden, Future Form, J00F, Baroque, Proton, Highway. Later, as a member of the Sonnen Blumen Kerne project he released four vinyl records on Nara Records, Hypnologic, Techfui, and more recently made a number of releases on Holding Hands, Otake, Simple Things, Mixcult & R&S records.

Berlin-based DJ Yamour is an artist on the rise, with a trail of successful gigs at Blitz, numerous Giegling parties, and more and more appearances at Europe’s most discerning clubs and festivals. It's the perfect time to get to know this exciting selector, who will be gracing the decks at Blitz even more frequently in the future!

We recently sat down with Yamour, who spent years refining her musical knowledge at the iconic Hard Wax store in Berlin. Rooted in American House & Techno, Yamour’s sets are all about the groove. In our Blitzcast 022 and the accompanying interview, she shares insights into her stunning selection and what’s currently on her mind. When it comes to techno, electro, and more importantly Electroclash, few can argue The Hacker’s credentials. The Frenchman was instrumental in the formative years of these movements and being active since the mid-90s has meant his discography is positively bursting with pivotal moments from electronic music. It is nearly impossible to discuss The Hacker without mentioning Miss Kittin, with some of their work such as “Champagne” EP including seminal tracks “Frank Sinatra” and “!982”. This is of course only a small, but not very important part of The Hacker’s story. With a string of solo albums and countless EPs to his name, the cross-section of electronic music that The Hacker enjoys is wide. Our next mix comes from a returning guest and a key part of the On Ro extended family, No Moon. Alongside iconic releases for Mechatronica, Craigie Knowes and Salt Mines, he has recently launched his own label, releasing club slammers on the No Moon Mean Series and warm house, IDM and ambient on the No Moon Cute Series. He's a fantastic DJ and someone we're always happy to run into, and we're very pleased to be able to present you this live recording. Some words from the man himself:

I'm very pleased to be able to share with you the recording from my set at Tag, Chengdu. I was meant to play for 3 hours but the recording ends abruptly at quite a high moment due to the club getting shut down by the police. Needless to say that was quite a memorable experience in itself and I also expected not to get a copy of the recording after that happened. But yeah such an honor to play there, and really happy to have the recording to remember it with as well.

Some background, I recently got the opportunity to travel around China and play in a bunch of different cities. The trip was pretty intense playing in 9 clubs in 3 weeks, which is also a very big difference to the amount I have been typically playing in the last couple of years. One of the things I've always considered important in DJ sets is improvising and not just playing something pre-prepared, but when you only play a couple of times a year this becomes really difficult. So yeah it was really great to have enough gigs in a short time to try and play like this again. Tag was the 6th show of 9 so by this point in the trip I felt really comfortable. The recording is full of new and old classics, blends and little snippets I'd worked out over the course of the tour, and even a rare instance of me playing a No Moon track. I hope you enjoy listening to it.

Marcel Dettmann: "Playing at Breakfast Club in the early morning is always a unique experience — the people there are musically open, ready for experimentation, and come with a certain expectation: they want to be taken on a journey. What made this set special was the combination of Ogazón and me. I think we had a great feel for the moment, for the groove and the tension. The energy was electrifying."

This week's mix is from Bennet. With a unique selection through the spectrum of house he carefully approaches his sets with a deep sensitivity and groove-driven peaks. 

Bennet lets the amazing records breathe and create their own highlights. A spring morning where the windows hug the rising sun and the smoke creates suprising patterns.

Track Highlight
One track that stands out for me is ‘Inda’ by Comodo, an alias of Marco Carola. It’s a driving house tool that brings a celestial note to the dancefloor, but over and over subtly explodes in with its driving baseline and always transforms it into a naughty affair.
