Bolam is someone who has been on our radar for some time. Hailing from the Shetland Islands and now based in Malmö, he has been making waves in the local scene, as well as picking up a lot of traction with his own music and Earworm podcast series. 

Having released tracks with our good friends Holding Hands as well as 2 EPs on Space Dust, his varied and technical production style sits somewhere between breaks, trance and tech house. As well as his skills as a producer, he's a fantastic DJ with a commitment to digging deep - this mix is testament to that!

Rotation 036: Bolam

Late last October I was invited to play a warm-up set for the inaugural weekend of Horst Club. The perfect occasion to prepare something special, I took a stroll through my record collection and went deep into the stuff I’ve had for ages but was maybe too dark or strange to play. Starting off slow, this set winds through some kooky obscure percussion, intermittent bleeps, cosmic sparkles, apocalyptic voice samples (‘it’s the end of the world’, ‘can we change the future’).
My main aim was to arrive at the final track by Deg aka Circadian Rhythms… and after 2 hours and 22 minutes my mission was accomplished! As I handed the controls over to Marco Shuttle, he said it was a very ‘British’ selection… I guess I can’t help myself. 😀

DJ Merlín is an Electronic music producer based in Amsterdam. As an alumnus of composition and sound design, he has been sculpting a style that can be characterized as hybrid and animalistic. This style aims to stir up a wilder and darker side of the dancefloor, creating a sonic ambience of experimental yet accessible rhythms and riffs.

Next to being an artist, DJ Merlín is the programmer of Amsterdam collective Kraft.und.licht . Whether it's deep in the Amsterdam forest or in the hull of an old freight ship, they bring together the right ingredients of audience and artists.

London based, when not digging they spend their time in the studio producing or running north London party Splitloop. Adam Antine is a dj, musician, promoter & vinyl label owner who’s been putting out releases for the past two decades with releases on Pleasure Garden, Future Form, J00F, Baroque, Proton, Highway. Later, as a member of the Sonnen Blumen Kerne project he released four vinyl records on Nara Records, Hypnologic, Techfui, and more recently made a number of releases on Holding Hands, Otake, Simple Things, Mixcult & R&S records. 

This is a real journey through the years!

Our next mix comes from a returning guest and a key part of the On Ro extended family, No Moon. Alongside iconic releases for Mechatronica, Craigie Knowes and Salt Mines, he has recently launched his own label, releasing club slammers on the No Moon Mean Series and warm house, IDM and ambient on the No Moon Cute Series. He's a fantastic DJ and someone we're always happy to run into, and we're very pleased to be able to present you this live recording. Some words from the man himself:

I'm very pleased to be able to share with you the recording from my set at Tag, Chengdu. I was meant to play for 3 hours but the recording ends abruptly at quite a high moment due to the club getting shut down by the police. Needless to say that was quite a memorable experience in itself and I also expected not to get a copy of the recording after that happened. But yeah such an honor to play there, and really happy to have the recording to remember it with as well.

Some background, I recently got the opportunity to travel around China and play in a bunch of different cities. The trip was pretty intense playing in 9 clubs in 3 weeks, which is also a very big difference to the amount I have been typically playing in the last couple of years. One of the things I've always considered important in DJ sets is improvising and not just playing something pre-prepared, but when you only play a couple of times a year this becomes really difficult. So yeah it was really great to have enough gigs in a short time to try and play like this again. Tag was the 6th show of 9 so by this point in the trip I felt really comfortable. The recording is full of new and old classics, blends and little snippets I'd worked out over the course of the tour, and even a rare instance of me playing a No Moon track. I hope you enjoy listening to it.
