I love her point here that there is so much value in religion and rituals, even if don't believe in a god. I've also thought about what other ways people come together which can replace or are similar what religious gathering can feel like.

Poet and historian Jennifer Michael Hecht says that as a scholar she always noticed the "shadow history" of doubt out of the corner of her eye.
