In this year of things falling apart, Drumcorps goes leaner & meaner, keeping a certain tenderness & melodic sparkle. There's only one way, and so we hear Aaron picking up scream duties for the first time, as well as the rest of the instruments. The transition from the old days of hyper-sampling is complete, and now the mashup forces are focused on deconstructing original work as soon as it's made. Build to destroy, to remake anew.

There's an ocean of harsh noise, electronic textures, sub-bass & jungle breaks, but all elements are concise & to the point, serving the song first. It's all woven carefully into the flow, built into the tunes as integral elements of a whole.

Thematically it's a willingness to engage with the darkest reality, but an outright refusal to yield to cynicism - essentially hardcore punk filtered through a diversity of experience and influence. A soundtrack for our remaining time in late-stage capitalism. For fans of hardcore, metal, d-beat, noise, and electronic soundsystem culture alike, there's common ground, and a way forward. If you're making music at this particular time in history, you have two options only: the purest, most hedonistic & escapist dance music, or the gnarliest, feistiest heavy punky spirit. This record is the latter.

Here it's done with a million layers of drums, noise, detuned guitars, distortion, melody & a certain sweetness. Some tunes are slow & heavy, a new addition, and some are lightning fast as always. Elements of many heavy genres are present, but it's diverse and free. Styles are blended together even within the same tune - from hardcore punk & neocrust, black metal & mathcore, with breakcore, drum & bass, & jungle-rooted electronic music as the unifying glue.

Artwork has been carefully selected to fit the music, a full piece of work unto itself. It's a beautiful collection of 35mm & medium format photography, sometimes glitched after the fact - electric feedback & film grain interacting or clashing, depending on your point of view - all shot from the same real life experiences which formed the music.

Can something be apocalyptic and energetic at the same time? Let's find out, for we must stay focused on the days ahead. Vibe-wise it's got a lot of the crustacean spirit, with eyes to the future. Find the good way, regardless. That's really the only option isn't it?
