The latest release from the Rome-based Onda Records truly is a delight for the senses. Helmed by Gianluca Marcelli aka DJ GLC, the label kicked off in 2017 courtesy of the exceptional sounds of G.I.M Productions’ ‘Rising Waves’ EP. Although following the latter might have been something of a daunting task, Onda’s sophomore release is equally enticing, with two originals (one from DJ GLC and the other from the aforementioned G.I.M productions) backed with stunning remix interpretations by two of the States’ most respected contemporary producers, Atlanta’s Byron the Aquarius and Detroit veteran Javontte.

If you’ve followed Onda Records output to date, you will already know that theirs is a modus operandi that definitely operates on the side of house marked ‘classy’. Typically draped in textured, old-school influenced vibes, the Italian label (helmed by prolific deep house aficionado Gianluca Marcelli) is one that continues to omit incredibly emotive house and techno of the type that’s designed to make lovers of the genre go weak at the knees. Powerful sounds that often fly criminally under the radar, it’s the sort of output that wouldn’t sound out of place amongst Mr Fingers’ discography -- and is likely be picked up by similarly-inclined cats such as Nick Anthony Simoncino, Fred P and MCDE. . For the label’s latest, Onda acts as a refuge once more for the talents of GIM Productions. Standing for Groove in Mind, this bunch of Rome-based connoisseurs are well versed in intricate dancefloor productions, and it’s a trick they pull off with esteem on the exceptional sounds of ‘Hertz’. A drum-led, vintage-sounding cut that’s notable for its floating baseline, it’s full of warm, melancholy vibes that captivate from beginning to end. ‘The Fog’ ups the ante ever-so-slightly, relying on a spliced vocal and a heavy sense of momentum to deliver the heat. Dance Mania affiliate and Chicago’s very own Vincent Floyd then delivers a brilliant interpretation that’s in keeping with his own lofty reputation for dexterous deep house gems. His remix of ‘Hertz’ is the sort of craft,  key-laden interpretation that fans of his classic productions a la the Rush Hour reissue ‘Your Eyes’ are most definitely going to lap up. Closing track ‘I Need’ closes matters amongst a NYC-sounding crescendo of sound that doesn't sound dissimilar to what David Morales was putting out in the 90s. A jazzy, dancefloor workout that will definitely have you moving your hips, it closes the release with some gusto. This is an essential release for deep house lovers that is sure to put GIM Productions on the map.
