"Devotion is the main aim—to try to encourage commitment in people." The fabric resident and Houghton festival founder discusses his love of the crowd, DJing and more.

Craig Richards, arguably one of UK dance music's most respected DJs, is normally averse to the spotlight. But the multi-hyphenate artist and fabric resident has played the London institution every Saturday for nearly two decades, DJing alongside fellow household names like Ricardo Villalobos and Nicolas Lutz. Over the years, Richards has profoundly shaped the canon that's defined the space and its programming week in and week out.

He’s keenly attuned to other DJs and the flow of a night, and he's not indebted to one particular style or genre. In a Resident Advisor feature from 2019, Ray Philp described his sound as "intergalactic space metal" that goes far beyond techno, house or electro, instead interplaying classics with deep, headsy tunes that he tirelessly seeks out every week.

In this interview with RA's European deputy editor Carlos Hawthorn, Richards talks about what makes a good record, and the DJ's role as a bridge between the past and present. He also discusses his endeavours beyond the booth—most notably the idyllic festival he started in 2017, Houghton, which is set in the English countryside—and his passion for painting and cross-disciplinary creativity. Having already made her mark on a number of prestigious platforms including Resident Advisor, Fuse, Hidden, Stump to name a few, her masterful command of all things house and techno have seen her share the stage with artists like Zip, Vlada, Raresh, The Ghost & DJ Masda.

Introducing Snad, also known as Spandrel, a prominent figure in the circles frequented around Club der Visionaere on warm summer afternoons. Splitting his time between Berlin and Philadelphia, Snad has etched his name in the scene, boasting 12-inch releases on European labels like Phonica, 20/20 Vision Minibar and Pleasure Zone. Despite his European ventures, he stays true to his roots, showcasing his US influence with records on Chez Damier’s Courtesy Of Balance Recordings.

Considered a rising star in the forecasted full on mnml revival, his sonic creations reflects the delicate weave of experiences gathered from his time in Chicago, Goa, and Berlin. Beyond geographical boundaries, Snad’s evolving ties to the Indian Underground position him as a significant player within enlightened circles. These circles, still traversing the Silk Roads, take their underground culture seriously, irrespective of their global location. Keep an ear out for Snad’s continual musical journey.

Radio Show #008 - Yorick

Onderons started as a small private get-together among friends where lesser known dancefloor music was centered.

​​Around 2003 @Detash & @Tomhas met in class and became instant buddies. Back then their main shared passion was Belgian football. But nowadays it’s all about the DJ culture! 

The last couple of years they’ve picked up their friendship and have spent a lot of time digging and playing records together. 
Not that long into the renewed friendship the idea started to grow for a new project called “Onderons”. An online mix series and a small get together where they play alongside some of their favorite DJ friends.
