Cat lover Chris Marker’s experimental short film La Jetée is comprised almost entirely of still photos, telling the story of a future where the survivors of a catastrophic event exist in subterranean exile. Ruthless scientists experiment with sending candidates back through time, in the hope of reversing the disaster. One man, scarred by a traumatic event from his childhood,
shows a strong enough connection to time that he can move freely across its boundaries - and in the past he meets and falls in love with a woman whose familiarity both haunts and disturbs him.

Created for this performance, the Glass Chroma-Harp is a variation of the Glass Armonica - a notorious 18th Century instrument designed by Benjamin Franklin. Achieving great popularity in its time, the instrument fell out of use as it developed a reputation for causing madness in both performer and listener.

A sound fully in tune with La Jetée‘s disturbing fatalism.

LARVA’S re-score sets out to re-focus the film from existential romance to abyssal fugue.

La Jetee is as much about what it is, as what it’s about. A man whose ‘photographic’ memory allows him passage through time.

Its medium is its message.

La Jetée [1962 - 2016] - LARVA

Unreleased music from the cult 1973 horror film Messiah of Evil.

Practically ignored for decades, this stylish and atmospheric chiller was the debut from the American Graffiti/Howard the Duck team of Willard Huyck and Gloria Katz. 
Inspired by classic horror, European art films and California Pop Artist Ed Ruscha, it has a genuinely surreal and dreamlike tension which places it alongside somnambulist classics Carnival of Souls, Suspiria and Phantasm. 
Steadily growing in stature over the years, the film and it's soundtrack have been championed by such noted genre hounds as Stephen Thrower (author of Nightmare USA) and Zombi's Steve Moore. 

One of the earliest fully electronic feature-film scores, Phillan Bishop's Moog-y mood music for Messiah of Evil is an avant garde suite of modulated shrieks, drones and pulses which whirl a discordant vortex around the bizarre on-screen images. 
With only three early-70's budget horror movies to his credit, this represents the first release of music by the mysterious Bishop, as well as including the haunting torch-song 'Hold on to Love' which originally played over the film's opening scene.
