Ondřej Brzobohatý is the son of the legendary Czech actor Radoslav Brzobohatý and the Slovak actress Hana Gregorová. Music came to him easily as he was surrounded with it as a child – both in terms of songs and singing and also the playing of musical instruments, all of which were an everyday occurrence in their home. Ondřej’s father was an expert who knew all of the Moravian folk songs whereas his mother’s interest was in traditional Slovak and Romany tunes.

During his studies at the conservatory, Ondřej took an interest in funk and soul music, falling in love with bands such as Tower of Power, Cool and the Gang and Incognito. He had been influenced by the sounds of black music and performers since childhood, as he would listen to his father’s records of Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder and Louis Armstrong. This music has remained one of his key sources of inspiration to this day.

Another area of interest to Ondřej had also been film scores. When he considered this as a possible career choice, he was stymied because there were no programs offered in any of the Czech schools tailored to the composing of such music. He was also reluctant to try and pursue an education in this area outside of the country. So, instead, he decided to learn what he needed to know on his own. He scoured music archives, his friends’ collections and the internet for film scores and spent countless hours with his discoveries, carefully listening to soundtracks and studying every note of the sheet music.
