In an effort to understand how my favorite songs work, I am beginning a project to "demake" each one in 8-bit style. This is my first entry.

Sugar Ray - Falls Apart (8 - Bit Cover)

This is the second track in my on-going effort to decipher and cover all of my favorite songs in an 8-bit style. This is meant to be.  above all, a loving homage to my musical inspirations, but I am also doing this to strengthen my musical songwriting, composition, production, and mixing skills. I try to be as close to the song as possible while still maintaining an 8-bit feeling, and a little bit of my own flair. On the whole, I think I'm doing well in this endeavor, but I still have room to grow. Please enjoy this, my 8-Bit cover of the first Jimmy Eat World song I ever heard and subsequently fell in love with. Thanks for listening!

Jimmy Eat World - Lucky Denver Mint (8 - Bit Cover)

This is my loving 8-bit homage to Amy Macdonald's 2007 single, "This is the Life". I first heard this song while I was living in Germany, and I really liked it, but I didn't know what it was called. It took me until two years later that I finally found out the artist's name and the song title. I love its folksy charm. In this version of the song, I was going for accuracy over originality, so although I used 8-Bit VSTs for each track, I was going for fidelity with the source track to preserve its greatness. I hope you like it.

Amy Macdonald - This Is The Life (8 - Bit Cover)

This is my 8-Bit homage to The Police's 1984 single, "King of Pain". I didn't grow up listening to The Police - I had to come upon their music after I had graduated from high school. They have several songs that I quite enjoy, but for me, this is their best song. I tried to remain faithful to the source material all while keeping an old-school video game-style sound in my version. I hope you like it.

This song was originally performed by The Supremes. Phil Collins has most prominently covered their song. Since his version was my first introduction to this memorable song, I mention his version as the song I'm covering, although both versions are basically the same.

This group can be a little troublesome to like, but I've always found their singles very catchy, and as I've gotten older, I've learned to appreciate Trevor Horn's production on their songs. This song is probably my favorite of theirs. Hope you like it.

I wanted to try making one of these with Sega Genesis-like sounds. When that turned out kind of boring, I decided to add in 8-bit sounds on top and bounce between them to create a unique nostalgic sound.
