Superchunk returned last year with their first new album in almost ten years and those ten years have allowed them to create without a doubt the best record of their career. Majesty Shredding telescopes two decades into 41 indelible, action-packed minutes. It is the sound of youthful exuberance fine-tuned with grown-up confidence.  Superchunk as always strike a unique and effortless balance between melody and force, craft and spontaneity, the energy of youth and the wisdom of experience.

In a year when indie-rock has had a major resurgence with the likes of Surfer Blood, et al, and Les Savy Fav have regularly been covering the band's classic "Precision Auto" at the end of their sets, it makes sense that Superchunk have returned to claim their rightful position at the forefront of thoughtful, intelligent independent rock music.

They have intermittently played shows in the US  since 2001 and released a handful of singles and EPs when time allowed.  Each member has been thoroughly busy - not least Mac and Laura who have been busy running one of the biggest US independent labels operating today, MERGE RECORDS, putting out the likes of Arcade Fire, Spoon, Neutral Milk Hotel etc.

Known for his work fronting the enigmatic rock band Pedro the Lion, David Bazan’s emotionally charged narratives, eye for telling detail and mournful voice have more in common with J.D.Salinger’s “Nine Stories” or Flannery O’Connor’s “Wise Blood” than with the usual lyrical slant of popular music. Bazan is a gifted storyteller, weaving parables of spiritual conflict, suburban ennui and personal surrender into magnetic, well-crafted songs.

His debut solo full-length album, “Curse Your Branches” is a masterwork by a modern American poet at the height of his powers. This record is the deepest and most explicit exploration of his struggles with faith and the Evangelical world in which he was raised to date.

Highly regarded in the US, if you haven't heard the name before, chances are that most of your favourite artists have - you can hear David Bazan's influence throughout the music from current singer songwriters such as Bon Iver, Conor Oberst et al.
