If you're writing, the story starts when someone is asked to change. When an incident happens that takes them on a new trajectory. A good example of this was on the day of my sisters wedding- My dad was asked to do ONE thing RIGHT. Take the Jello to the Lion's Hall. My dad took the Jello and put it in the van. You know the kind of van that has no seats in the back. He placed it in between the passenger seat and the driver's seat, and went downtown waving to folks like he was mayor. Then Suddenly a car pulls out and my dad has to make an executive decision. Hit the car? Or Save the Jello? Or will he have to make an expensive sacrifice to save his marriage? These are the questions a writer needs to ask. How will your main character respond when a suddenly happens? Will he/she react the same old way? Or what will the suddenly provoke? And  What's different about today?
