With 2021 winding to a close, Nikko.Z's Dopamine White welcomes Agustin Pengov back to the label for a new EP. Hailing from Villa Mercedes, the Argentinean artist has enjoyed a successful first year of production. Following contributions to samplers from Aletheia Recordings, Balkan Connection and Strangers Beats, Agustin made his Dopamine White debut in July with the well-received 'Balance' EP. Also adding Droid9 and Massive Harmony Records to his resume across the year, Agustin now returns to Dopamine White with a three-track showcase entitled 'Gloom'.
Beginning with the title selection, Agustin crafts an epic slice of progressive house that's dialled for a peaktime dance floor. Played out over eight minutes, it's muscular groove, pulsating rhythms and driving percussive arrangements come together for amazing moments across the first act. With the main break drawing closer harmonic phrasing fades to prominence, shifting the narrative from a heads down mentality to one of wistful reflection. Opening up further as the centrepiece expands, a gentle rush of noise unleashes the groove for a gorgeous melodic finale.
The EP continues with the deep, chugging vibes of 'Maybe'. Immediately captivating, it's robust bassline, flickering arps and gaseous effects make for anticipatory beginnings. Rolling percussion adds swing to the framework, while cascading harmonies play off the well carved low end, as a smooth atmospheric rise initiates the break. Furthering its emotive leanings, the main motifs trail across the centrepiece, perfectly setting up an arpeggiated interlude as beats drop for a thunderous finish.
The release concludes with the equally impressive 'Abyys'. Well in line with the previous selections, its striking beats and free flowing, energetic style conjures up colourful clubland images. A marriage of trippy effects and driving percussion set the stage for an indistinct yet impactful melodic theme. Once again, the main break is set to delight dance floors with its whimsical charm and understated build, the latter of which perfectly shifts energy into a fluid, atmospheric finale. Groovy and memorable, it rounds out a welcome return to Dopamine White for Agustin, who continues to be one of Argentina's most promising progressive house talents. Highly recommended.

Gabriel Borgo - L'evitar (Original Mix)

onedotsixtwo is delighted to welcome Australia’s Tristan Case back to the label for a solo EP, following on from his first excursion with us as one half of Case & Barlow, who joined us with ‘Dorse’ back in 2019 (ODST018). Tristan’s stunning original titled ‘Bubble Modulators’ is complimented by a fantastic Maximo Gambini & Q.A.T remix and our label boss, Tripswitch, turns in an epic breaks interpretation. 

Tristan’s star has been in ascendance since he first joined us back in 2019, and he now revisits us with a stunning piece entitled ‘Bubble Modulators’. Based in Sydney, Australia’s Tristan Case is a long time resident of one of Australia’s premier festivals, Return to Rio, and has recently been releasing on respected labels such as Do Not Sit and Sound Avenue, with the formers release hitting number one on the overall Beatport release chart. 

The original is an epic ride, with Tristan’s signature written all over it. Deep rolling bass, soaring keys and syncopated vocal cuts build, twist, and turn into an explosive breakdown, and out the other side to a thunderous finale. Argentina’s Maximo Gambini & Q.A.T make a welcome return to the label following their debut EP with us, Stochastic Process, in the summer of 2021, and give Bubble Modulators their unique treatment, taking the original and giving it a more subtle flowing feel while retaining its raw energy and the addition of a breakdown fit for the biggest of stages. Lastly, but certainly not least, our very own Tripswitch gives us a multi-layered atmospheric breaks remix, taking the deep progressive elements of the original and fusing them masterfully into a euphoric breaks crescendo.

Hailing from Utrecht (Netherlands), Kasper Koman has quickly become a favourite amongst artists & fans alike with his unique production style & undeniable musical aesthetic, earning him high-profile releases on John Digweed's 'Bedrock', Guy J's 'Lost & Found', Guy Mantzur's 'Plattenbank' & the mighty 'Anjunadeep', Above & Beyond's deeper imprint. In mid-2020, Kasper Koman gracefully presented one of his biggest releases till date - a milestone 2-track EP featuring "In Circles" & "Wilder". In 2021, we revived "Wilder" with remixes by Alex O'Rion & Doppel and now we kick off 2022 with our 56th release featuring 2 stunning renditions of "In Circles" by none other than - Mike Griego.

The Argentine artist has been at the forefront of creative music production ever since he emerged into the progressive space in 2009. Mike Griego's carefully crafted pieces have regularly found their home on Cid Inc & Orsen's 'Replug' & Hernan Cattaneo's 'Sudbeat', showcasing his unique vision, musically & sonically. We're thrilled to have Mike Griego grace his debut on Juicebox Music through 2 contrasting remixes of Kasper Koman's "In Circles". Mike's 'Nitro' remix goes into warp-speed with an aggressive drive from get-go, slowly entering a euphoric atmosphere and diving right back down to full power while his 'Deep' remix, powered by a low-end heavy groove, encompasses the more melodic side ultimately creating a gorgeous dreamy space.

Legendary DJ and Bedrock label owner John Digweed named me as 1 of 4 winners in the Structures Two DJ Mix Competition, sponsored by Bedrock, Beatport, and Ableton Live.  The panel of judges included King Unique, Robert Babicz, Oliver Lieb, Gavin Kingsley (The Radio Department), Nick Muir, and of course, John Digweed himself.

The purpose of this mix is two-fold: to provide an enjoyable musical journey for the audience and to impress the hell out of the judges. To do this, I chose only the best tracks from Structures Two, and ones that were related in harmony, choice of sounds, texture, and mood. Below is a track-by-track analysis of my competition entry…

00:00 – We begin with the King Unique Kosmische Mix of Vamoosh by Anthony Pappa & King Unique. The ping pong delay is set to 50% to create a spacey atmosphere, and to avoid sounding the same if someone else chose the same intro.

00:30 – The absolutely sublime From Paris To Berlin Mix of Jardin Nights by King Roc & Dimitri Nakov [119 BPM] begins.

01:47 – Misstress Barbara & H.O.S.H. Finally Mine (Gorge Remix) [123 BPM] enters the mix.

04:29 – Dibby Dougherty & David Young Tiger Forest (Ryan Davis Rework) [124 BPM] starts creeping in. The hi hats and clap from the previous track are looping throughout Tiger Forest to keep the energy flowing.

08:59 – Jimmy Van M & Steve T. We Are Children [125 BPM] begins. I felt this track could have used more hi hats, so I’ve taken the ride cymbal from Tom Hades Come On and kept it looping throughout the entire production.

12:27 – Oliver Lieb Parallex (Melody FX) is layered on top. It sounds great together with the vocals and strings in the breakdown.

13:43 – John Digweed & Nick Muir Bilder (King Unique Rebild Mix) [127 BPM] enters. Of course we have to include this one as it’s arguably one of the strongest selections in Structures Two! Plus, gotta pay homage to Bedrock. No, but actually there is another reason why. Up until now, we have been using tracks in the key of D minor. It would be terribly boring to have an entire mix in D minor, wouldn’t it? Luckily, Bilder is in the similarly related key of G minor, which allows for an ultra-smooth and seamless blend.

18:40 – We hear Kruse & Nuernberg My Real Name Is (Reprise) being sampled in the breakdown of Bilder

20:58 – Timo Maas Kick 1 Kick 3 (Maetrik Sexy Remix Edit) [126 BPM] kicks in.

22:14 – Lewis Ryder Kaffee-Monster Schief Gegangen (Nathan Coles & David Coker’s Spanish Fly Mix) [122 BPM] begins. The last 10 minutes of the mix are much different than how we began. Now we are dealing with mainly percussive tracks that are less harmonically complex. The music becomes faster-paced and the energy continues to build.

24:15 – This is where things begin to get really interesting. Clement Meyer Piece By Piece (Maetrik Remix) is an atonal piece with hints of E minor towards the end. The Lewis Ryder track preceding it is in B flat minor, so the root notes from both songs playing together creates a rather strong dissonance. Specifically, it is a tritone relationship, which normally sounds horrible but is actually considered stylish these days.

26:09 – The percussion from Timo Maas Kick 1 Kick 3 (Maetrik Sexy Remix Edit) is looping in the background.

27:55 – King Unique 2000000 Suns (KU Heat Death Of The Universe Mix) fades in. The music crescendoes into an intense climax before the set finally winds down. Notice how I begin and end with King Unique for continuity.
