Swamp Grunge kicks off the That GTown Sound album because it has so much energy, plus it’s short, sweet and shows a bit of my rock and jazz side. The bass riff is something I have played for years whenever I picked up a guitar or bass…and probably is a ripoff of something I’ve heard from another band, but not sure where. I added the twist of a switching feel of rock to jazz as well as
a trumpet part to round it out.

Swamp Grunge

This song, That GTown Sound, epitomizes to me what type of sound I was getting and what types of songs I was writing this past year. The opening low piano, slow slinky drums and a horn part…building to an energetic chorus/bridge with feel changes throughout. This one has a Charlie Brown feel to it as well. The horn part is from a trombone that my Dad gave me for Christmas during the pandemic. I had never played trombone before, but he thought it would make a great addition to the studio. I decided that the trombone cry fit well for some extra flavor on this one. One of my most favorite sounds on this album are the rim clicks that start off this song (not on this video). The great Jack Endino really brought that to the forefront and it's just so sweet!

That Gtown Sound

Circus Man is the first song on Stone Dresden "Throne of Tin" EP. 

This was originally recorded in 1992 at London Bridge Studios in Seattle, and then was remastered in 2022 by Jack Endino.

Stone Dresden is Chad McCollum, Shawn Psachos, Pat Tanner and Mike Gruwell. The band was part of the Seattle scene in the 90s. These three songs were only previously released on a cassette demo. Jack Endino rescued and remastered these from a DAT master!

Mike Gruwell is an Atlanta-area drummer working out of GTown Studio in Acworth, GA. Mike is the drummer for Red Hot Empty. He also tracks drums for other bands and creates his own original music featuring drums, bass, trumpet, piano and percussion. Mike has more than 35 years of drums and percussion experience in recording studios and live venues. His wide-ranging genre experience includes rock, funk, jazz, punk, world, blues, symphonic and worship music.
