"Atollo" is the debut solo album of the Italian percussionist and composer Daniele Di Gregorio, a virtuoso of the marimba and the vibraphone who has worked with a large number of artists, including Giorgio Gaslini, Tony Scott, Randy Becker, Luis Agudo, as well as Mina, Andrea Bocelli, Fabio Concato, Malika Ayane, and many others. He also has a long-standing collaboration with poet and composer Paolo Conte.

His latest work “Atollo” is divided into three very different sound paths.
The first and most extended section is entirely played with the marimba, an instrument that is still fairly new and in full evolution. Some pieces have been performed using special gloves and see the over-layering of two marimbas, in order to build polyrhythmic designs and hypnotic sequences. Other marimba pieces have been performed in “solo” versions using soft, medium and hard mallets.

Secondly we encounter the trumpets of the Vienna Symphonic Library, which pieces after dissecting sound by sound build up the compositions with overlapping rhythmic and melodic loops.
”Atollo” the piece that gives the title to this album is the closing track and is created with the Petrof Grand Piano, an evocative and hypnotic piece intended to describe the sound of the sea and the movement of its waves.
All the compositions are deliberately descriptive of the title they take, and are a sonic journey into the composer's past and present.

Sketches and tracks takes were recorded onto an old cassette tape, rejected and thrown out, found before long. Sound layers of vintage synthesizers was reduced to absurd simplicity and got a new life as tape loops.

One Instrument Volume 01 is the physical fulfillment of eight sound experiments composed by different producers using the guidelines of the label. 
The choice of the Various Artists format aims at creating an harmonious journey across different sub-genres in the ambient, techno and experimental worlds, which can perfectly embrace each other. 

The LP opens with a composition by In Bloom, the new project of Martino Bertola, who drives us directly into a melodic ambience. To follow it is the dense, polyrhythmic experiment by Fabian Kempe’s project ‘Korridor’. Serena Butler’s piece is built around spacey sounds and breezy rhythms. 

Yhdessa, the newly born Dutch-Italian duo formed by Grand River (Aimée Portioli) and Enrica Falqui, leans towards ambient atmospherics and ominous sonorities with a refined Northern European touch. Yair Elazar Glotman ventures us across his contrabass player skills giving an acoustic touch to the record. 

Swedish producer, Fjäder (Ida Matsdotter), handles the flip with a moody techno cut filled with evasive analog acutes. 

Claudio PRC delivers an electroacoustic soundscape created with a tiny, graceful drone machine. 

The Dutch duo, Wanderwelle, closes the LP with a dreamy and delicate excursion evoking the mysterious sides of nature.

In a scenario of overwhelming number of instruments, musicians often do not take the time to deepen and explore the creative possibilities of each gear they possess. One Instrument aims at counter-acting this tendency by challenging and limiting each artist in producing a composition by using only one instrument of their choice. 

One Instrument presents "One Instrument Sessions”, a new format on which each artist shows a more personal narrative of the sound experiments they compose. 

Neel opens the series with a solo record including “Aria”, a 20 minutes long piece made with the E340 Cloud Generator of Synthesis Technology, and “The Morning After”, composed with the Roland SH-01A. 

The E340 Cloud Generator is an oscillator which Neel says has always been a fan of. It has eight sines and sawtooth VCOs with unique modulation capabilities. “Aria” came to life while he was preparing for a live techno set: when he stopped the recording the oscillator kept running producing the sound and tones audible in the composition. 

The Roland SH-101 is Neel’s favorite synth. “The Morning After” is one of the 9 experiments he created while using the boutique version of the machine.

It was recorded live on my living room while Georgina was sitting on the sofa testing her microphone. 
The only sound source used is her voice, no other samples where used.

For the next One Instrument Session series, we’re pleased to present the Indonesian artist, Fahmi Mursyid. 
This mini-album, limited to an edition of 200, includes 6 tracks that take the listener on a warm, experimental journey of varying timbres.

The artist has always had a personal interest in traditional Indonesian instruments, specifically from Sundanese culture, the second largest Indonesian ethnic group, native to the western part of the Island of Java.

Paying homage to this source of inspiration, he has chosen to use Indonesian instruments for almost all of the tracks on the 12’’. Considering the strict guidelines One Instrument gives the artists, Mursyid has succeeded in getting the most out of his chosen instruments.

With each of the 6 different acoustic instruments he has eluded clichè and surpassed physical limitations to shape a bold, alternative musical language.    
All tracks are recorded with only one condenser microphone.

Certain to become a collectors item, 'One Instrument Sessions - Alessandro Di Puccio’ pressed onto 7” vinyl and will run a very limited edition of only 100 copies. On this record One Instrument presents their most minimal work to date; three one-take vibraphone tracks recorded by Alessandro Di Puccio eighteen years ago.

The tracks are a selection from eleven pieces that were originally created for a theatre piece called “Il silenzio è d’oro” (“Silence is golden”). After 18 years of being kept in a drawer in Di Puccio’s home, these previously unreleased works will finally see the light of day.
Short and powerful, these tracks suddenly break the silence and reflect Di Puccio’s interest in evoking virtuous and tender emotions. “One Instrument Sessions - Alessandro Di Puccio” gives the listener a feeling of simultaneously being tenderly cradled and awakened.

Playful and bright, the tracks reflect the joyful nature of the vibraphonist and composer who since 1986 has been experimenting and collaborating with many internationally renowned musicians.
