The machines had been turned off. It had been many years since anyone had ventured into the old warehouse, there was only some slim hope that it might still even work. Once upon a time this place had been a paradise, a kingdom and a place in which revellers came to let loose and be free.

This was back in the old days, back when the dance was all innocent and little did we know about what might lurk around the corner. The bans, the trouble, the crime, the chaos.

Yet after all this time, the machinery was still here. The speakers, the towers, the noise. He wondered for a moment, dreamt even, whether they might still have the unction to function.

DJ ojo is back with another release, following on from the well received outing on Blank Mind, things get deep and introspective on a new EP which features odd electronics and dusty, moody sounds.

Originally recorded at the International Studio & Curatorial Program, Brooklyn, in 2018 - Betty Hammerschlag’s ISCP EP gets a reboot via Cologne’s SPA Recordings. 
ISCP emphasizes Betty Hammerschlag‘s signature that recycles intros, phrases and found sounds into infinite loops. Layered emotions are warping with desires to cycle endlessly about each other. Their deconstruction of pop songs is a delicate act of extracting quintessential temperaments of emotional pop. The Songs are floating eternally like a never-ending sillage full of sentiments.

'Movement Gallery’ by Colorado-based artist Werner Levant showcases a meticulous balance between traditional string instrumentation and more modern elements. In contrast to the noise-heavy releases of the previous year, this ambient offering provides an introspective sonic experience, inviting listeners to explore the depths of their own emotions through the resonance of strings.

At its core, 'Movement Gallery' is a musical experiment that seeks to redefine the listener's perception of conventional instrumentation, specifically focusing on the expressive power of string instruments, the human voice and properties of 'experimentalism'. Its thematic exploration revolves around the transient nature of human emotions and experiences. Each track serves as a sonic vignette, capturing moments of beauty and mystery. The project is a testament to the artist's ability to traverse diverse musical landscapes, demonstrating a mastery of both the experimental and the emotive.

Miaw, the emerging cross-pop duo, is set to release their third single, "Petswan," on the 17th October via katharsis. Known for indulging fast sampled drums, chopped vocals and dreamy synthesizers, miaw’s progressive production flirts with the intersection between a remix and a pop song. elements of both remixes and traditional pop.

Following airplay on prominent stations like BBC6 and 1Live, and earning praise from international publications such as Undertoner, Bands of Tomorrow, and BPM, who described them as “frankly mind-blowing,” miaw is now poised to drop their most dynamic and club-ready track to date with "Petswan."

The song’s narrative centers on the classic themes of love and heartache, while being wrapped in an experimental and high-energy soundscape. Driven by bright, plucky synths, frenetic breaks, and miaw’s signature pitched-up vocals, the track explores the emotional turbulence of unreciprocated love

The 45th release of katharsis is the EP "Intrusion" by Italian artist Lefka, releasing in full on October 28th. Throughout the six tracks of the EP, Lefka swaddles the listener in a dense and distorted quilt of sound that feels both heavy and light at the same time. "Intrusion" is a release that aims to sonify the acceptance of intrusive thoughts through a kathartic and emotionally intense experience.

Through heavy use of granular synthesis and electric guitar recordings, the release varies from calm, introspective moments to peaks of intense sound pressure. Like through glass, the sounds refract and are broken into pieces, creating an aural effect of rebound and confused scattering, and like intrusive thoughts, the tracks have abrupt peaks that reset the silence with unsettling intensity.

Lefka is a multidisciplinary artist based in Amsterdam. As in a stream of consciousness, his own productions are characterized by an irreverent and disillusioned approach, which aim to detach from a precise genre-categorization.
