ONESELF, a new record label based in Barcelona, presents its first reference by Russian techno artist Maksim Dark. This first EP grows from the roots that inspired ONESELF founders, dj and producer Alex Molina (The Deals) and graphic designer Toni Rubio: top drawer dark techno enhanced with a minimalist sensibility. This two elements, darkness and minimalism, are Maksim Dark best kept secrets, only revealed on his best occasions.

Power Stab and Hard Nuts, ONESELF’s first two tracks, are as astonishing as the Russian Ural mountains. Its icy landscape surrounded Maksim Dark as a kid and it is clear that his recent productions are as fresh and superb as his homeland. The Russian artist has one of the earliest and most prolific trajectories —more than 100 tracks and remixes—. Few artists know what’s necessary to reach this massive creativity like him: a deep focus to develop the energy of the bass and not looking back until reaching the summit.

Power Stab remixes come from the italian duo The Dolphins and the reinterpretation made by Johnny Kaos, based in Berlin. Two proposals that increase the rhythm promptness, capable to descend without trembling to the depths of any techno club. North american dj and producer Schubert completes ONESELF first expedition. Known for his creative hyperactivity, managing two labels, djing and having his own live performance, he has played around the world and contributes to Maksim Dark’s EP by remixing Hard Nuts and reinforcing its two strongest points: a short breathless percussion and skin crawling vocals that makes us smile nervously. Because enjoying oneself is not necessarily harmless and reaching rhythm’s summit is not an effort free experience.

ONESELF.’s third release shifts slightly from its initial revulsive minimal releases towards a more firm techno, and it does so for a very special reason: Ukka’s new addition to the team. The Buenos Aires producer has been an active DJ and producer for more than seven years now, and his constant studio identity pursuit is what brought ONESELF. and Ukka to work together. 

Revenge and Friends, the new two original tracks by Ukka, sound as powerful as a windy hailstone storm blitzing the crowd in an open air party. Dancing to Wigbert’s Revenge remix can be as energizing as being treated by the needles of an acupuncture’s master. 

Playing Ukka’s tracks and Wigbert’s remix is also an opportunity to discover their similarities as techno producers, but its even more exciting to discover each one’s unique creativity through the distorted melodies, encompassed bass and stretchy noise effects. You’ll feel a direct physical effect on your spine, making it buzz as your mind awakes in search of stronger emotions. 

What German DJ and producer Wigbert has done in recent years for Pan-Pot or Gregor Tresher is solid proof of his talent for remixes, and this is no exception. Wigbert has a unique method of combining studio machines with his personal arrangements. The result is a series of vivid tracks rooted in analog and digital sounds that are able to produce, at the same time, unpredictable beats and melodies. Equally human and mechanical, this work exhudes power and consistency. 

Ukka -alias for Lucas Barrionuevo- has launched more than 20 releases since his debut in 2011, previous to ONESELF. Revenge EP. His tracks have appeared in labels such as the Brooklyn based Inmotion Music or Amsterdam rooted Click Records. Clubbers around the world have become familiar with his tracks’ vibe, notably since artists like Dubfire or Richie Hawtin have included them in their acclaimed sets.

Since its first release, ONESELF.’s aim has been releasing the best cutting edge minimal and techno sounds produced by artists from all over the world. This fourth release couldn’t be an exception, but there was a way to make it even more special: The Barcelona based record label decided to explore all techno spanish dancefloors in order to find the best mind-liked artist that could represent what the label sound is meant to be Siles.

Siles’ defined and matured techno, refreshing as usual, fast and clever as always, is the best answer to ONESELF.’s local research. His superb EP Flax comes with two original tracks and two remixes by legendary artist Joran Van Pol and the Barcelona based The Deals, ONESELF.’s co-founder and one of the most active djs and producers in town.

The Valencia based dj and producer Siles combines an enormous trajectory hardened both in clubs and in the studio. He is undoubtedly the most talented name to join ONESELF.’s artist crew, preceded by successful and acclaimed names such as russian Maksim Dark, canadian Johnny Trika and argentinian Ukka. 

Flax EP takes over your nervous system like only the most engaging and addictive tracks are able to do. Dislock hypnotizes you from the first beat and won’t let you stand still until the last one. After the experience, you will be willing to play it another time, is as enslaving and fun as you can imagine in your best clubbing dreams. How can a single track be that soft, dark and genuinely captivating, all at the same time? Find the answer by yourself, letting your soul be absorbed by a gravity bouncing beat and intriguing and seducing voice that will reach the most unconscious and hidden parts of your brain. 

The Deals’ Dislock remix complements the original and expands it by adding exquisite percussion and rhythm, keeping its essence and masterfully opening another dimension where you’ll want to be in it too.

Flax names the EP and it’s also the opening track by Siles. Assembled in a sturdy and increasingly powerful structure, it will easily become a must play track for experienced techno djs. 

No other than Joran van Pol could have done such a great remix for Flax. The dutch artist, acclaimed from his early beginnings, when Richie Hawtin and Dubfire edited his first releases in M-NUS and SCI+TEC, shows why he continues growing as a headliner artist that can’t stop making the crowd dance, no matter if we’re talking about Tomorrowland, Space Ibiza or Awakenings. 

Because legends are kindly made for connecting with their supporters and they become better as the time passes. If minimalist techno is evolving again, thank Joran van Pol for being at the center of this more than welcome next step, a part of a massive evolution that ONESELF. wants to contribute in every release.
