Veteran Newcastle Drum & Bass producer Tyrone makes his debut on The North Quarter with Hurt Index, a bespoke six-track statement piece showing off a new dimension to his sound.

While writing Hurt Index on and off over a two year period, Tyrone challenged himself to step out of his comfort zone and to find a tone that balances his signature sound with that of The North Quarter. The end result is a collection of intricate hi-tech funk of the highest pedigree and a project of a more weathered artist, who has grown and expanded his repertoire.

“The last few years have seen some really turbulent times in my personal life which in turn has given me the ability to be able to lean on these emotions for inspiration. There was an emotion carried throughout the production of each of these tunes which is what makes this project incredibly personal to me” Tyrone explains. “The entire process has In a way been very cathartic, sort of like a spring clean for the brain.”

ℹ️ | Bay 6 Recordings present the fourth edition of their compilation series Back to Bay 6, Vol.4. Much like the  previous records, the label aims to introduce fresh talent alongside their existent roster. Artists such as  Artsea, Beeson, Natus, and vocalist Aleya Mae contribute tracks alongside long-standing Bay 6 artists like  Colossus and Fearbace, as well as recent signees Option and AUDBL. The result is a rich take on drum &  bass, where artists are given the freedom to build upon the foundations of the genre.

Artsea's 'Summer's End' opens the record. Serenity is the atmosphere here, as the track leads with a gentle  piano riff. Modulated pads and driving percussion play out in the background, recalling the rise and fall of  waves crashing against the rocks. 

Colossus and Aleya Mae contribute 'Flight Patterns'. Technical drum programming, spherical synth  patterns and deep bass lines create a stirring base from which Aleya Mae delivers a soaring vocal full of extended harmonies. Texturally, the track is detailed, a dense combination of sounds designed to evoke  the deepest feelings. 

Elsewhere, AUDBL's 'Night’s Embrace' features undulating motifs and finely layered melody work lower in  the mix; Beeson's 'Cindy Stop It' is a minimal symphony defined by a gripping intro, and 'Find My Way' sees  Fearbace and Natus deliver a poignant take on drum & bass. 

Option's 'Prying Eyes' closes out the record. Perhaps the most club-ready track on the compilation, it's skittering drums take hold on the brain like a liquid symbiote, while nimble melodies and cavernous bass add the decoration.

Ambient textures and deep liquid bass notes saturate this 4-track expression from Brainwork. Ever evolving, his journey has taken him on an ethereal adventure that has now seen him land his latest release with onesevenfour.

‘Attached’, the first track, delicately introduces the theme for the collection. Soft keys and floating vocals harmonize with the soul of this song and hint at the creative works to follow.

‘Unbroken’ combines the gold of Brainwork’s musical talent into a single gliding symphony of pianos, percussion, vocals, pads, and bass. Reach out and hold onto this beauty, as moments like these are rare.

‘Timelapse’ pushes forward into the limelight with a bold bassline and snappy snare. The unassuming intro, and a switch on the second drop, will have you vibing out on the dancefloor, or taking a break from reality.

‘For A Moment' is the end of this journey. It moves up into a new level of emotion, using a male vocal to serenade the listener into an audial romance. Dancing percussion and heavenly pads tickle the ears and warm the heart.

It was only by chance and through a close connection that these four debut tracks from newcomer Hyrah found their home on onesevenfour. You cannot help but be instantly impressed by their depth, beauty, and polished production. And this is only the beginning!

‘Echoes’ pulls inspirational beauty from all corners of the Earth. The delicate intro moves swiftly into an intertwined drop of mysterious vocals, wide pads, and sub-bass bliss. Melodic cameos and evolving basslines keep this one pleasing to the ear right through to the end.

Slipping into a deeper zone, ‘Quantify’ is the perfect follow-up. Carried by a sound bed of pianos and earthy vocal tones, this melancholic production grounds the release in its essence - pure vibe.

Foregone - that has gone before; previous; past. determined in advance; inevitable. Rising up into brighter tones, ‘Foregone’ merges worn-out and rustic tones with sweet percussion, delicious keys, and heavenly vocals. The replay button was made for tracks like these.

‘Surplus’, like the tracks before it, makes complex sound simple. A gliding, percussive, and jazz-laden story filled with hope and emotion. The world is full of beauty, and this track proves it.
