I began writing the song Destiny on a trip to Leonora in Western Australia. I was working there, managing a counselling program for Asylum Seekers who had been tortured or suffered trauma on their way to Australia. Due to the policy of mandatory detention the Australian Government had decided to house traumatised unaccompanied children in an old unused mining camp on the edge of the desert 13 hrs drive Northeast of Perth. This happened despite the fact that most of them had extended family in Australia with whom they could have stayed. 

Trauma shatters our meaning and trust in the world. This song Destiny speaks to this experience of betrayal while at the same time celebrating that child who longs to be free. It also expresses my desire to continually come back to love as the central point of meaning and presence in an uncertain and changing world and to use music as a vehicle to invite others to do the same. 

The song and the word Destiny simultaneously reflect this pivotal and paradoxical choice: it is our destiny to choose love and our destiny is also the fulfillment of all the unchosen consequences that brought us into the position to make that choice.


Destiny

OneStep is the 3-year-old yoga-rock-love-star child born of guitarist/songwriter Rob Findlay’s love of the perfect song and singer/songwriter Bowen’s impulse to share his delight of being divinely inspired through music - as loudly as possible. 

Styles range from a blend of Cosmic-Funk-Rock through Gospel to Reggae and everything in between. Since joining the band in April, lead guitarist and musical wizard Karl Griffiths has also stirred in a large dash of lounge room psychedelia for good measure.  Garnished with a strong spicy groove section since bass player Mira Rao and drummer Steve Young joined in May: OneStep serves up a menu of upbeat songs that inspire and uplift fans into musing, moving & grooving.  

Finding they really (really) enjoyed playing together OneStep members decided to record their first e.p. only 5 weeks after fully forming.  With strong ties to community and place, they love to share locally in the experience and joy of good, healthy, home-cooked songs and plan to start gigging around Western Australia this Spring.  Weather and opportunity permitting they will look to take their zesty tunes to various music & yoga festivals around the world through 2016.

OneStep are as fearless in traversing spiritual subjects as they are musical genres. What holds the music together stylistically is its purpose (and that of its members); to connect to the divine and each other through a shared love of music. And... to have an irreverently reverent good time while doing it. OneStep’s primary aspiration is to share  a taste of the love, joy, connection and healing their adventures in music and friendship have brought  them, with others around the globe.
