Jeff Bell AKA Maa Bell started mastering the art of turntablism in 1991 out of the blossoming South Florida rave scene. Jeff spent thousands of hours mixing vinyl records on Technics 1200s turntables and a Ueri rotary Mixer. He played at many raves and eventually ended up in Hartford CT where he was the resident DJ at Velvet Nightclub and System Afterhours for the next 7 years playing Friday And Saturday night to thousands of people and also live on WMRQ 104.1 Radio 104.

During this time Maa Bell Started his production career. Over the next 5 years Maa Bell produced 8 songs that were met with great success and distributed on many labels. One was “In The Midnight Hour” by “SuperPower” made in collaboration with Dave Dresden (who went on to be 1/2 of Gabriel & Dresden) which became an anthem at Jonathan Peters’ Sound Factory in NYC.

In 2005 Maa Bell decided to walk away from the music business and change directions in his life. In March of 2023 Maa Bell felt the bug and started producing music again and here we are.

Hosted on dublab.com, Dub & Effection (D&E) is a project of Guyanese-American DJ and Dub-Stuy member EDICA+ that sheds a light on everything Sound System Culture, music and art.

Riffing on the expression “Love & Affection”, D&E focuses on the appreciation for the foundation of Dub Music – the sound, the production techniques, the equipment – and its connection to modern dance music such as Bass, Deep Dubstep, Downtempo, and other forms of experimental Electronica. Choronozon (aka. 333) & Shugal (333) are two of 72 demonic entities in the Ars Goetia or the Lesser Key of Solomon.  These Demons must be greeted upon climbing the tree of life if one wants to attain ultimate awakening and enlightenment.   Choronzon being the symbolism of the negative/reverse end of the Kabalistic tree and Shugal being the positive or masculine aspect at the top.  This makes no sense to a casual reader.   But the production and timing and even the levels on filters/effects used numerology and geomatria to suit the lore of this song.  It is yet another incantation and ritualistic release.  Not going for anything in particular but to express myself and capture a feeling into layered sound arrangements.    Happy listening.  Nothing bad will happen if you do listen.  It's not a negative concoction. <3
