Vincent Van Gogh is a world renowned artist but the fact remains that he only sold 1 painting during his lifetime. Mental illnesses plagued him, including depression, and despite this he saw beauty in a world he felt tossed him aside. He would end his life, with a gun to his heart and his final words being “the sadness will last forever”. Van Gogh never got to see how much him and his art mattered nor the impact he would have. As an artist myself, albeit a different field, I pour my heart and soul into my songs, revealing truths and struggles to just connect with others who feel the same. A lot of the time however, it feels so lonely with zero recognition. Asking yourself “What is it for? Why do i keep going? Do I have to die to be seen?” This song is me tapping into that, imagining that Van Gogh had gone through those same thoughts. So this song is taking that energy and screaming, “I do matter! My pain and my art matters! So if this is it, I will make sure the world knows who I am” i am Van Gogh.

I didn't want to be quiet. It's not that I even wanted to be heard. I think all it is really, is the need to know that I'm not meaningless. That everything I've ever done, all the pain i've endured, from trauma and depression, that some good can come out of it. Because I do love the person I've become from all of that. It's just sometimes, I can't even hear myself say that.
