Adelaide live synth pop quartet Only Objects follow up their last lushly melodic single ‘Chase the Sun’ with something completely different. A slice of future-funk, ‘The Ones Who Really Matter’ straddles the gap between the classic pop vibes of French House and contemporary dance music. With a thundering sing-along chorus, chiming synths and (yes) a suitably groovy bass solo, the end result is as catchy as it is summery, even as it hides more complex ideas beneath its bright major key funk.

The tune looks towards what it's like living in a world where communication is so accessible to the point of losing connection. The extreme of this becomes the self delusion that we matter only when we are called upon, only when we are summoned by people's impulses to connect rather than establishing fulfilling and lasting relationships.

Adelaide electro-art-pop quartet Only Objects combine bombastic, dramatic synth-pop, clattering electro-indie-punk and confessional songwriting. 

Their music is influenced by the hazy gothic tones of the 80s, from Depeche Mode to The Cure, with a furiously contemporary twist backed up by a wall of synth-sound. 

Their songs are a mixture of the highly conceptual and the deeply personal. The space in between those two extremes is where we are all only objects.
