The recording session as it used to be:

I would prepare as for a stage performance with more emphasis even, on my voice. Vocal exercises teas and elixirs. If an evening session my last meal eaten would be at noon. An afternoon session hardly ever for me, nothing except maybe broth. Then I’d get there usually before the musicians, and they’d come in with shop talk and jokes. Session musicians. These were my songs. They were about to be flushed out and embellished for the purpose of reaching the masses. The first sessions were painful mostly. There was usually a session leader; union guys, arrangers (Roger Kellaway), charts, an engineer. Through these people with me as focal point, (sometimes), as we are talking a lot of male in the room. All the musicians were union; had all graduated from Berkeley or Julliard. Roger had worked with Ballanchine. Labels were loose with funds. The return on investment being greater than the investment, or so easily recoupable by keeping the Artist “in the red”!

I digress. The point is it was me having to defend, protect and keep pure my songs. Peter was the defender of my voice, but had his idea of my next “hit”. Hit? Me? For me it was to communicate the songs from my intensely personal feelings to “out there”.
Who knows what or where it will land “out there“. In the spirit of releasing the trapped thing ~ and always up to a higher place where it could be heard by others, lift spirits or share pain, amplifying itself to the God ear and so on. Later on, sessions became more about the drug of choice, depending on the times and what was cool, and what was not.

Present Day 

Now a sessions is ~ “Mama, do you feel good? I need you to do a vocal” “On what?”
“I Tried To Die Young” (Now in it’s third incarnation.)

“I’m going to chop this broccoli first, and then I’ll be up in about twenty minutes.” And in less than a month: There it is ~ And it’s finished! Right up to the God ear and more. It is my personal sway. As if it were all me. It is my second heartbeat. The true soul of the songs. The life I’ve sworn to protect and release; Keeping intact the ever so delicate essence, the heart and soul of it for you, my dear ones. Immaculate ~ The best recording ever made. Thanks to Beau-Jarred, my child’s brainchild, George Wurzbach and Peter.

"Doorman in Formant" is the second 12” from 19-year old Cambridge, UK-based artist Metrist and his first on Fifth Wall Records. Returning to Fifth Wall after prior remix work for Myler and support from the likes of Ancient Methods and Shifted, Metrist delivers a bundle of four originals, accompanied by a remix from Trilogy Tapes and Killekill artist Eomac.

Marrying oddball techno, suspended film score chords, reptilian synthwork, and a touch of industrial, the EP sits in an idiosyncratic, sui generis place among its contemporaries. We think you’ll like it.

Requiem for a dream

I love opening sets.

Opening sets allow the DJ to create the atmosphere for an entire night and are a true challenge (and lost artform) for those DJs, who travel from town to town every weekend playing 2 hour peak-time sets.

Opening sets allow to play tracks (and / or songs) that you usually don't hear in a club when you arrive after a certain time due to the DJs fear of losing people off the dancefloor (so what? :-D ).

For this and other reasons I dedicate this mix to those who tend to come (too) late and to those who come early at the same time and send a huge "THANK YOU!" to those who were participating LIVE in this session. 
Also to those who contributed a few "WHOOHOOOs" in silent passages - one of the many nice things you only get when playing vinyl :)

It was a pleasure seeing the packed floor bouncing...early, did I mention that? 

There is this line in the song "Hello" by The Beloved:

    All you late-comers, just step on board.
    I'm happy, glad you came.
    So welcome home again!

"Saturday Night Live" was recorded live on Saturday, January 26th 2013 at Panorama Bar in Berlin with roughly 98% vinyl & some unreleased tracks from CD.
The mix begins at 12:30am and ends 4:30am with some feedback from Virgo Four's microphone. Enjoy!

Another master class in sleek and solid Techno from Jerome Sydenham on his right-setting Apotek label.

Upon relocating to Europe from New York in 2007, Jerome Sydenham has been a standard-bearer for a resolutely seamless and modern Techno; having created and spread the sound on a myriad of labels and with an array of major artists. However, his latest release on Apotek sees him flying solo with four tracks of varied, yet relentless Techno. 

A call to all Sydenham's followers, 'Disciple Trail', guides a convoy  of precision layered beats through a path of syncopated percussion. A leading example of his unique take on Techno with this tone-setter for another no-nonsense Apotek release.

Scaling the peaks of this EP, is 'Adirondack'. A vertigo inducing looper, woven with the finest production threads from Detroit, Chicago and New York. 

Streamlined and sleek like river dwelling stones, 'Whitewater', flows smoothly out the speakers with a slightly more hypnotizing appeal then its A-Side counterparts. 

'Whitewater In Trackmode', strips back the chords, leaving nothing, but a stealth-like stalking creeper of Techno left lurking through the passageways of the subconscious. 

Apotek effortlessly proves again why it is one of the go-to Berlin labels for quality Techno.
