Very excited about the release of our fourth reference. We welcome Kiri, who debuts on our label with his second EP called "Gateway to Hell". The Austrian producer already showed his weapons in his first release on the amazing Kurnugû label and now offers us in this new EP 4 tracks full of personality and power including a collaboration with Parasite. Grumpy Halftime/Jungle wrapped with corrosive percussion, sinister bass and apocalyptic atmospheres. Kiri promises to make us vibrate a lot with his Drum & Bass, welcome to his dark hell. As we welcome Stephen Redmore aka Mako back to the label, it’s important to note that Death of a Romantic is not only the debut LP for Mako on Samurai Music, but it also puts Mako in a solo category, a historic first - the only artist to ever release an artist LP on both Metalheadz and Samurai Music.

Death of a Romantic aptly captures Mako’s ability to span different corners of Drum and Bass’ musical palette - a talent cultivated by a musical approach informed by full absorption in the history of this music as a building block, plus a dedication to perfecting the science of breaking down the essential elements needed to make any construction approach at this tempo achieve maximum efficacy.

Followers of Mako’s music have no doubt taken note of this versatile approach to writing music and his gifted ability with breaks and sub-bass. For Death Of A Romantic, a considered approach to strip the music back more in line with the Samurai Music sound was taken but the album retains the Mako flavour - deft, subtle hooks, beds of sub and ethereal ambience, pinned down by total rhythmic potency.

Highlights are many, but the first tunes that were written for the LP embody perfectly the musical environment Mako built specifically for this LP - ‘The Both Of Us’ with its sinister intro and tear out conclusion, and ‘Raisuma’ - a call and response rhythm that is almost dub-like in feel with peaks that pack a hefty punch.

Makos's signature lead hooks appear, albeit tempered, to compliment the build reduction on tracks like ‘Falter’ and LP closer ‘We Can Love All’ - both are clear cases of this interpolation of Makos's own breadth of style, pointedly refined to slot into the LPs sound and utilising space to increase their power.

The Death of a Romantic song titles all carry a consistent message, one that Mako puts to use in his own life and interactions with other humans, and one we could all benefit from reflecting on at this time - life brings us joy and pain and much more in between, but if we live with compassion and humility, we can truly love all.

HLZ has finally released his highly anticipated debut solo single on Utopia Music, and it's been a long time in the making.

For true drum & bass enthusiasts, HLZ's name should already be on your radar. He has been curating the purest form of D&B since 2009 for the real heads out there. These tracks offer creativity and integrity, pushing the boundaries of his own respected style within the genre and nodding to times past with a modern update.

The two-track 12" wastes no time in showcasing HLZ's intentions. "Black Core" kicks things off with its icy break workouts, featuring raw, rasping drums with an industrial edge. It's not a high-speed roller but rather a sneaky creeper that satisfies those who want intricate beats backed with nightmarish overtones.

With "Arcane," HLZ takes us on a journey of pure pressure in the way he knows best, stepping rhythms, stabbing yet gut-punching bass design, working in tandem with groovy tablas, clever fx builds, topped with lush euphoric pad work, 170 in the truest form. It's a distinct track that reveals the hidden magic of a B-side.

This release demonstrates why HLZ is a crucial figure in the genre and upholds the core values of D&B.

Hailing from Poznan, Poland and leading the legendary DrumObsession crew, Locked Concept welcomes Alegria for his debut on the label.

Alegria was first approached for a release on Locked Concept following his debut EP - ’Petrograd’ on Akuratyde's Modern Conveniences. Although this wasn't the first time Lockjaw and Tellus had heard of Alegria, with the two label co-founders coincidentally seeing him DJ, supporting Kid Drama at one of the DrumObsession events in Poznan, way back in 2015.

Fast forward to 2024, Alegria delivers his forward-thinking ’Aurora Borealis’ EP. With different Poznan-based artists collaborating on three of the four tracks, the release stands as a sonically diverse contribution to the Locked Concept catalogue.

The title track - a joint effort with Tellus - kicked the entire effort off in the blissed out Autonomic style both artists love. Ewski, who used to be part of a legendary dubstep collective (Dungeon Beats), also found common ground with Alegria on ’The Healer’, which is the smoothest, and most delicate piece on the EP. ’Terra Incognita’ with Istota, who used to run a short-lived albeit stellar experimental drum & bass label Black Crane, is a 130 bpm bass-driven electro / breakbeat hybrid. Finally Voitek Noir joins Alegria on ’Englishman’ in a beautiful 80s-inspired Autonomic storytelling piece for the patient listener (wait for that second drop!).

They say good things come to those who wait and we’re glad Alegria and his friends took the time in crafting this EP.

Blood Trust advances the Digital Red Label Series with “To Live For” and “To Die For” – twin sonic assaults locked in at 170 BPM.

“To Live For” leads off with an undercurrent of jungle-inflected turbulence, strengthened by stark tech-step scaffolding and squelchy bass rumblings. A mechanical yet fluid syncopation rushes the momentum forward, carrying interlocking pieces that never seem to collide.

Descending further into darkness, “To Die For” joins fragments of hardcore punk samples with “Under the Skin” style string swells, punctuated by buzzing drum edits and driving percussion. A stripped back, steppy interlude eases the tension before the track reforms its menacing core.
