Pianeti Sintetici ('synthetic planets' in Italian) is a new conceptual project by Davide Perrone (Primal Code) that draws inspiration from the factories of Magrathea, a planet in Douglas Adams' classic space opera The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, where artificial planets are manufactured on commission.

“This concept has always fascinated me, and I chose the name to frame a hypothetical future of synthetic worlds, told with sound,' Davide says. 'I like to imagine the howls of creatures inhabiting solar systems outside our own. Rarefied atmospheres, alien sequences, and unfamiliar tonal scales. So, I see Pianeti Sintetici as an open-ended design research project where I can explore these inspirations.”

Pianeti Sintetici already has three stand out releases on the legendary Hypnus records and has played a string of mind bending shows, including this mix, which is a live set from the 2023 edition of Positive Education. Tune in for high fidelity alien psychadelia teased over hypnotizing interstellar grooves 👽👾🛸

Clarisa Kimskii is a Brooklyn-based DJ, producer and resident of both the Brooklyn-based, queer party Merge and Volnost in Seoul. Her pure, yet passionate approach to DJing has graced the decks at international institutions such as Berghain, Tresor, Basement, Khidi and Amsterdam’s Ratherlost party, plus festival appearances at Taiwan’s Organik Festival, North America’s The Great Beyond, Honcho Campout, Sustain-Release and Japan’s Rural Festival.

For MNMT 453 Clarisa presents an assemblage of both timeless and modern grooves, with ethereal ambient techno delicately drifting into a swirling vortex of trippy alien synths, expertly mixed for a propulsive and atmospheric trip.

“In this live I wanted to express different facets of my sound, there are stems of many new productions that will be released in the future. I tried to combine everything with the sonic aesthetics of Opificio and I think I reached a good compromise between drum n bass, IDM and techno. I hope it can evoke at least in part the emotions of that night.”

MNMT Live : Pianeti Sintetici

Means&3rd aka Ben Marsden joins us for episode 469 with an extensive session covering over 2 hours worth of techno territory.

The Manchester based artist can be found behind the counter at the legendary Eastern Bloc Records where he fronts the house and techno curation for the shop.  He has leveraged his exposure to the latest sounds there to promote his own Unveiled Nuance events and label as well as securing performances at events throughout the country.

Some words from Ben - 

"I aimed to create something that reflects where I am sonically right now. The aesthetic of the deeper sound has expanded so much lately, touching on all sorts of BPM's and vibes, and I've really been loving every bit of it. This music requires some patience and a commitment to fully appreciate it, which is one of the reasons it continues to captivate me so much. 

I also wanted to give a huge shout-out to all the incredible artists featured in this mix; there's so much amazing music out there right now., and a massive thank you to the Monument team as well—I'm genuinely grateful for this opportunity "

The highly influential yet sublimely grounded Ness is the man behind our 35th podcast. This is most definitely another very very special addition to the series so far, and one we couldn't feel more honoured to bring to you. Musically, Ness is considered a front runner for the deep techno genre, moulding an individual sound and personal style straight from the heart - a result of nearly two decades of music exploration and immersion in the form of DJ'ing, sound engineering and through establishing his very own record store in his hometown, Sardinia - with his very first label, Mono Records, following two years later. With an organic evolution in personal interests taking him from DJ'ing alone through to production too, Ness swiftly proceeded to capture the unwavering attention of the international techno community, with releases on the likes of Prologue, Dynamic Reflection, Ear to Ground and of course The Gods Planet, his second label launched in 2010 alongside fellow techno pioneer, Claudio PRC (together known as The Gods Planet). What we love about him the most we hear you ask... the completely addictive, deep, rolling grooves characteristic of his productions aside? His total dedication to keeping it real - allowing his creativity complete freedom to do its thing and inviting appreciators to join him on each phase of his musical journey, illustrated through his most recent LP, Trancemigration, released on The Gods Planet. The On the 5th Day journey to date has been an adventure to say the least - one defined by chance meetings, not to be forgotten nights and inspiring conversations. There are a whole host of people that have played a significant role in its evolution, inspiring the 5th Day founders with their mindset and love for the music, introducing them to new sounds and new artists along the way and helping to shape On the 5th Day into what it is today. Lucien Biscop is without a doubt one of the 5th Day pioneers we have to thank, although he'll be quick to humbly disagree, and so it gives us pleasure of massive proportions to bring you this podcast from the man himself.

An On the 5th Day resident, Lucien is responsible for gluing together our nights at Corsica, stepping in between the other residents and of course, headliners to gel together the musical flow which On the 5th Day is becoming increasingly renowned for. Whether warming up at the start of the night, bringing his take on ambient techno to the room in order to pull 5th Dayers in, or peaking proceedings in room two where he's guaranteed to bring it, Lucien is a trustworthy techno curator, demonstrated further here through this eyebrow raiser of a journey.

DJ'ing aside, Lucien spends the majority of his time immersed in the studio, where he is working on crafting his first releases. For now, you can delve into his sound and inspirations here. Enjoy!
